It is a truth universally acknowledged that any two young people, having been some time engaged to be married, will be a great deal anxious about the activities of their wedding night.
(a wedding night fic. 8.9k words, extremely feelingsy smut, split into 2 chapters so that you may stop at the fluff if you wish!)
and one more thing in the fatal unpleasantness at netherfield when juliet tells jonathan that her parents also had to wait for her grandfather’s approval to get married and that “it was years in coming”, which is not accurate to northanger abbey because in the last chapter it says that a year passed between catherine and henry first meeting and them getting married (an extraordinarily short time for all the shit that happened but i digress)
now this can just be a little mistake but i really believe that either catherine and henry remember it as being a much longer time than it actually was or they were so dramatic when telling the story of their separation to juliet that she just assumed years and years passed before they could get married
We thought it would never come but finally, in all its advil liquid gel colored glory, THE FATAL UNPLEASANTNESS AT NETHERFIELD pubs TODAY.
While I was excited for last year's release, it is nothing compared to how desperate I was to get this book in my hands. Every five days the asoiaf fandom decides that the delayed 6th book is coming out imminently and STILL fatal unpleasantness at netherfield (a phrase my auto fill was all too sure I was about to type) was my most anticipated read of the year.
I thought about Juliet and Jonathan more than many people I love during the wait for this release. Friends to lovers does have rights and it truly doesn't get more slow burn than this. Slow burn yet you know they want to bone, which is my sweet spot.
Nothing can compare to these two for me (and I am actively looking for something comparable, it simply does not exist). I hope that we will have many more anticipated release days with this series, especially with the little fandom we're building on here, let's go freaks!!!! 💚💚💚
The Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney Series by Claudia Gray
This was the series I listened to while moving, and its perfect for that. I would say that 2/5 books were able to solved by the reader pretty early on. But I am mostly in it to listen to this neurodivergent man and his I-stab-meat-to-see-what-the-stab-wound-looks-like sweetheart interact. Juliet is born out of time because she would make an excellent crime scene investigator and its a shame everyone thinks her hobby is morbid.
On the other hand, I think the social ettiquette of this period actually benefits Jonathan Darcy because it helps him mask better. There are clear rules to most of his interactions and he's able to get through his life with very few social blunders.
Jonathan discovering that he's in love is so adorable. He's always surprised, then panicked about how this changes things, then panicked some more about if it doesn't change anything. Man after my own heart.
Because I am an Austen fan, and a murder mystery fan, these were good books for a light read. The main characters are head over heels for each other and I think my favorite line is "Hang the world." because, sir, you cannot go around saying that shit.
4/5 stars for the series. That cliffhange at the end of the Netherfield one is a 5/5 tho.
Content warning for pretty much anything that comes up when your characters have an ingrained christian world view (homophobia, sexism, misogyny, heteronormativity, and other stereotypes), as well as mentions of slavery.
This section is for the last book in the series, The Fatal Unpleasantness at Netherfield, because its not out yet.
THEY RUN AWAY WITH EACH OTHER??
ELOPEMENT???
Jonathan Darcy was like I will live on the streets before I live without her, and, like, sir, actually, you very well might.
Can't wait for the next one.
And idc what anyone says, Miss Allerdyce is a real one for shipping them as much as the rest of us.
