Young Dracula Rant

I fully pretend that the season 2 finale and everything after it never happened. I hate that everyone in this show is forced to be the thing they wanted the least at the start. if it was just vlad and jonathan being forced to accept their futures, that would have been so much better. Mina becoming a slayer when she thought it was lunacy, mr. van helsing being killed by the creatures he lived to kill, robin losing his interests/personality and his only friend all in a moment and that not being touched on, erinn being turned only to be killed off anyway, etc. all of it was so tragic and pointless and it made vlad's sacrifice less meaningful, less special, and more predictable. like, of course vlad gives up what he loves to live a life he hates- everyone else did the same thing. i kinda wish *that* was what he had been selfish with, or that the show got the end of season two as its tragic ending.

I actually wish the story had been more about jonno and vlad being two sides of the same coin. both trying to escape their crazy lives and just be normal, both forced to accept their destinies. maybe when jonathan finds out that the Counts are the Draculas he doesn't immediately side with his dad. he hated the idea of that life, got along well enough with vlad and wanted his dad to stop harrassing his classmate. maybe the concern of these people disappearing looking suspicious convinces him to play dumb and get in his father's way. maybe he and vlad bond over their desire to be normal. maybe this turns into friendship.

then lets say vlad is still the chosen one and he still has to accept his power. i could see vlad and jonno both ending up in similar situations as to the canon, both eventually taking on leadership roles. perhaps their former friendship and mutual disdain for the situation they've found themselves in leads them to their truce and we get a bittersweet ending where everyone else gets their happy ending- ingrid takes the dracula title, the branaghs end up fine, mr vanhelsing is proud of his son, mina thinks everything is fine, robin doesn't lose his identity, etc.- except for those two. heavy is the head that wears the crown type beat, but less actively annoying than what we got.

i genuinely love the sitcom tone and to an extent, i wish they would have kept it, but, seeing as they chose to change the tone, i just think this would have been a better route

I love how many Bella Swan moments are in Young Dracula. First with Vlad and Robin when Robin’s first response to finding out Vlad’s a vampire is to offer up his neck. And then Jono’s love at first slomo sight when Ingrid walks into the school🤭

i was trying to innocently watch young dracula when my yt did something cursed. i think this is the 4am post https://www.tumblr.com/witchofthemidlands/743528598169894912/i-am-still-battling-through-my-young-dracula-hyper i made the other day either coming back to haunt me or trying to warn me not to write the vlad vs a “dreamworld” 1931-2023 dracula multiverse 😅 i stand by what i said though vlad would see this version of dracula in his normal clothes & think a normal dracula? 🥹 for me? 🥹 with all his vlad dracula hope & optimism only to get scarred for unlife & after. the renfields are trading & discussing the consistency, the delicacy of insects, jonno's having a quarter life crisis, agatha wants to study them for science, ingrid's watching this like a sports match, vlad is rocking back & forth hoping he's going to wake up in the himalayas & the draculas are trying to out c(o)unt the other, they're battling their way through whitby, terrorising the nearest goth festival, the draculas are fightingggg.

i had this idea of vlad and jonno becoming friends in the first season bc of their parallels someone pointed out once and wondered how that would be and spun it a little further

s1 they both get close bc of their freaky single dads who force their sons into a role they don't want, one being a vampire slayer, the other being a real vampire. and they both want to escape their destiny and just be "normal" and have normal families and not be burdened by any supernatural (dangerous) stuff

s2 gets a little more complicated, jonno finally realizes vampires are real, trusts vlad less who has to earn jonno's friendship, they make a pact that they won't become what their fathers want them to, jonno swears he would never slay vlad and vlad swears he would never kill someone. they still get along but their different destinies keep getting in the way as well as their ideas of a peaceful living. jonno accepts his role as a slayer, spends more time with his dad and practices with him, vlad is feeling a lil suspicious but he doesn't wanna fight, while he becomes more vampiric and gains more powers, they become more and more hostile towards each other and vlad desperately tries to salvage their friendship and tells jonno it doesn't have to be this way between vampire and slayer but jonno keeps brushing him off, says they can't be friends anymore while he and his dad are slaying the count, vlad of course can't let that happen and will do anything to protect his family

future AU - jonno has grown into one of the leading slayers, vlad is now a fully transformed vampire, they drifted apart after a not so nice departure, vlad has also accepted his role as the Chosen One, has seen and done a lot of things he isn't very proud of but he's "now an evil vampire so it shouldn't matter". jonno has a task force to hunt down a vampire who has killed slayers, after some time he finds out vlad was the one who did it, when he and vlad confront each other, seeing each again after all these years, jonno is sad and disappointed and so is vlad, "you promised." "you promised too."
