I fully pretend that the season 2 finale and everything after it never happened. I hate that everyone in this show is forced to be the thing they wanted the least at the start. if it was just vlad and jonathan being forced to accept their futures, that would have been so much better. Mina becoming a slayer when she thought it was lunacy, mr. van helsing being killed by the creatures he lived to kill, robin losing his interests/personality and his only friend all in a moment and that not being touched on, erinn being turned only to be killed off anyway, etc. all of it was so tragic and pointless and it made vlad's sacrifice less meaningful, less special, and more predictable. like, of course vlad gives up what he loves to live a life he hates- everyone else did the same thing. i kinda wish *that* was what he had been selfish with, or that the show got the end of season two as its tragic ending.
I actually wish the story had been more about jonno and vlad being two sides of the same coin. both trying to escape their crazy lives and just be normal, both forced to accept their destinies. maybe when jonathan finds out that the Counts are the Draculas he doesn't immediately side with his dad. he hated the idea of that life, got along well enough with vlad and wanted his dad to stop harrassing his classmate. maybe the concern of these people disappearing looking suspicious convinces him to play dumb and get in his father's way. maybe he and vlad bond over their desire to be normal. maybe this turns into friendship.
then lets say vlad is still the chosen one and he still has to accept his power. i could see vlad and jonno both ending up in similar situations as to the canon, both eventually taking on leadership roles. perhaps their former friendship and mutual disdain for the situation they've found themselves in leads them to their truce and we get a bittersweet ending where everyone else gets their happy ending- ingrid takes the dracula title, the branaghs end up fine, mr vanhelsing is proud of his son, mina thinks everything is fine, robin doesn't lose his identity, etc.- except for those two. heavy is the head that wears the crown type beat, but less actively annoying than what we got.
i genuinely love the sitcom tone and to an extent, i wish they would have kept it, but, seeing as they chose to change the tone, i just think this would have been a better route
Me: Clip shows suck, clip shows always suck. From Star Trek: The Next Generation; Shades Of Grey, to both Phineas and Ferb Music Clip shows, they have never not sucked.
It's been a bit of a theme this series that Bertrand is extremely clever and Vlad doesn't believe him about anything.
Inspired by our Sherlockian friends, we were thinking maybe it's time Vlad got the message. So, let's take the phrase 'Believe Bertrand' and put it out in the world (we've tried telepathy, but the boy really is hopeless)!
Up for it? Please read the instructions and information below.
How can I help?
Well, get a post-it or a piece of paper (or loads, because this is a strangely addictive thing to do) and write on it 'Believe Bertrand'. Because, after all, that's what we want dear Vlad to do. Then stick it up in a public place somewhere. Simple! Oh, and send us a photo of it so we can stick it on the blog (tag it 'believe Bertrand' or stick it in our submissions).
For extra fun, why not have a go at drawing the triple-V symbol Malik’s so fond of on the post-it too? But don’t put it in a triangle. Fanglings, if you find a triple-V somewhere on a post-it note, draw a triangle round it! Then we’ll know there are multiple vamps in a territory!
Woah, don't run off yet, fanglings.
There are a few ground rules here:
Don't do anything permanent. That means nothing that can't easily be fixed. Good suggestions include post-it notes and blue-tacked pieces of paper. Definite no-nos include stickers, stencils, spray paint (unless you're Malik) and writing on walls. Don't do it, y'all.
Don't cover anything up. Posters, ads, street names, that kind of thing - leave stuff that's already there visible. We're not here to be nuisances.
Don't send us any photos with other breathers/vampires in them. We don't want to bring the slayers down on us, after all. People can get so... touchy about these things (and for good reason).
Don't get caught. Not that we're doing anything illegal (at least, we don't think so) but it seems way vampier this way. Besides, we don't want to be chased out by any peasant mobs.
No biting, no slaying. Got it?
Go for it, fanglings! Have fun, and don't forget to keep us posted!
The 'Believe Bertrand' campaign and believebertrand.tumblr.com are in no way affiliated with the BBC or Young Dracula - we're just fans. Obviously, we can't really get a message to Vlad - it takes way too long for his post to get through the garlic-screening process, for one thing - or change the outcome of the series in any way. But we thought it might feel good to give it a try.
