. . .
I don’t know why I’m still nervous now even when Jonghyun Hyung visited me earlier today during my performance broadcast to surprise me for celebrating my comeback. I am now at home, waiting for him to arrive from his parents house to announce his official discharge from the military. Even though we’ve known each other for more than a decade, I can’t help but worry that things might turn awkward for us.
I didn’t know how to react when Jonghyun Hyung surprise-visited me today, still in his uniform. I knew that I was extremely happy to see him but with all those people surrounding us and since I’m still new to this, I’m afraid they might suspect us. I hugged him properly and tightly only when we were finally left alone in my waiting room. Knowing him, he’d cry, which I always find endearing. I asked him why.
“I just missed you so much and you were amazing out there. I’m so proud of you,” he explained, his voice slightly faint and nasal from crying too much.
I looked into his puffy eyes and smiled goofily for seeing his face again after one long year.
“Okay, I have to save some tears for my family,” he joked, sniffling.
Jonghyun Hyung and I had been texting back and forth during his year of service. Almost every night, he would call me on video chat before he had to turn in his phone.
Around four months ago, it was a normal day for the both of us. However, he was acting strangely. He seemed extra jumpy and he talked so fast that I could barely understand what he was saying.
“What is wrong with you today?” I asked. He always told me whenever something was bothering him, but apparently, not this time.
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re acting weird.”
He paused for a while there. He aimed the camera away from his face for me to see only his shoulder.
“Hyung?” I called for him but he didn’t respond right away. We stayed like this for a whole five minutes, just me getting dizzy from watching my screen going round and round.
“Taemin, there’s something that I’ve been putting off telling you,” he started once the camera stopped spinning and I can see his face again. “You know how we’ve been spending time like this lately, and I must tell you, I’ve been very happy. Like, really very happy. I’ve been thinking about this a lot,” his voice sounded breathy.
I just continued to listen to him, quite confused, waiting for further information.
“I’ve been thinking about this a lot and...” he repeated, seeming fidgety. “I like you, Taemin.”
There was long silence. I had no idea what to say.
Next thing I know is that he said “Okay, good night!” and hung up. But he followed it by a text message saying, It’s okay, you don’t have to give an answer right now. Just tell me whenever you’re ready. Sleep well.~
We didn’t talk for a while after that, but we still texted. I began preparing for my comeback, weeks of practicing vocals and choreographies, plus video shootings. I became so busy that I almost didn’t think about what he told me.
After over two months of nonstop working, I finally caught days of break. I got to relax, thought about everything. My feelings for Jonghyun Hyung were always there but I guess I never really thought of it deeply since I didn’t think it was a big deal. When I heard it directly from him, although shocked and a little confused, I felt so happy as if my heart wanted to jump out of my body and run to him.
Talking to him by the end of every day is the moment I always looked forward to. I got unreasonably worried when I hadn’t heard from him all day. I was disappointed some nights that he’s too exhausted to talk and he had to go to bed early.
I had to tell him, too, how I felt so I decided to finally call him.
I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that he left to serve the military simply as Jonghyun Hyung and came back as my Jonghyun Hyung. It’s insane to think about. I don’t think I felt this blissful in my life. Talk about timing. I feel like running and jumping and screaming!
As I’m just sitting on my couch, still waiting for him to arrive, I feel restless, fidgeting my knees. My heart drops when I hear a knock on the door.
A gorgeous man appears before me holding a bouquet of flowers. “Congratulations, Taemin!” Jonghyun Hyung greets me with a sing-song voice.
I giggle at his cuteness of a smile. I gesture him to step inside as I took the bouquet from his hands. “Thank you, Hyung!” I say, trying not to sound too happy while I hug him.
After I offer him something to drink, we settle down on my couch. I inform him of my promotion process since he asked how I was doing first. Then I just watch him tell me all about his experience in the military. Eventually, his laugh is the only sound I’m hearing, and his smile is the only thing I’m seeing. It’s the most beautiful thing.
We talk for hours. Time passes by so quickly tonight that we lost track.
“By the way, where is your uniform?” I ask him.
“At home, why? Did you like how it looked on me?” he says, reading my mind.
I laugh. I’m too shy to admit that he did look hot in that military uniform. “Yeah, I think you looked taller in that,” I tease him instead.
“Hey!” he shouts, then punches me on my arm playfully.
I change the topic after we finish laughing. “It’s getting late, do you want me to drive you home?”
“Well...” He pauses for a moment, probably thinking how he should put what he’s about to say. “I was hoping I could stay here?”
“Huh?” Just like that I feel uneasy again. “Here?” My eyes eventually widen at him even when I don’t mean to. I don’t remember the last time I blinked.
“Forget it.” He’s laughing but I can hear the frustration in his voice. “I’ll just go.” He stands up from the couch and is about to head to the front door.
“Hyung!” I didn’t mean to yell. “I want you to stay,” I say gutlessly. He turns around to face me again.
“Why?” He reveals his frown this time.
“Day after tomorrow,” I try, but stuttering. “I will be busy again for the rest of the week so I might not be able to see you again for a while. So…”
“Taemin, obviously, you’re still not comfortable with this. It’s okay. I understand that this will take time. I’m still adjusting myself.” It’s true what he just said but I do want him to stay. I want…
Him.
My mind is out of control as my built-up desires take over. I run to him and clash my lips against his, drawing him even closer to me by his hips. I pull away after a moment. “But if you really want to go—”
He hushes me by clashing our lips together again even before I can catch my breath, this time it’s more tender but lustful.
His hands are now grasping my face and mine are starting to slide down at the top of his butt cheeks. Our bodies are colliding naturally, making me feel his hard-on against mine as our tongues taste each other.
He pulls away after a few minutes, already breathless. He looks in my eyes fiercely, biting his own lip. “I’m going to wash up,” he says, without changing his expression. He then goes running to my bathroom and slamming the door shut.
I’m finally able to breathe and just realizing that my heart is beating harder and faster. I can’t help but giggle at myself and fall back to the couch while I feel my face burning with my palms where he just touched me. “Hyung, what are you doing to me?”
. . .
I slowly open my eyes awake, feeling Hyung’s warm embrace wrapped around me from behind. I can also feel his breath against my ear. My heart is already full even when my day literally has just started. This has been the best sleep I’ve had in as long as I can remember.
“Taemin,” I hear him moan. He must’ve felt me waking up.
I carefully roll my whole body around to face him, then watch his precious skin shine along the morning light.
“How did you sleep?” he asks, his voice raspy.
“Perfect,” I say, smiling widely already.
I get out of bed to go to the toilet and let him linger on my bare ass.
I hear him sigh and chuckle, making me smile even wider.
I went back to the bedroom with a question in mind. “Hyung,” I call for him, rejoining him in bed. I hesitate.
“What is it?” He stares at me waiting to hear something else.
I look down for a second to think. “When did you start liking me?”
“Well,” he starts immediately, not breaking eye contact which makes my cheeks feel hot. “I asked myself that question a lot, too, way before I confessed to you. Of course it was confusing at first but it was no use fighting it. I have no idea when I started to like you, just like how no one knows when exactly the weather turns from spring to summer or from summer to fall. Eventually, I just started feeling differently towards you. A feeling that is hard to explain through words.”
I just nod lightly, looking down at his bare muscled chest. Once again, not knowing how to respond. He pretty much spelled out my answer to that question too.
He scoots closer to me and touches my nose with his, his forehead on mine. “I’m just lucky enough that you like me too,” he says, tears shape up in his eyes.
“Oh, Hyung,” I empathize, putting my arm around him. “I can’t wait to tell the guys.”
“Really? You want to tell them right away?”
“Yes, they’re our best friends. I’m sure they’ll be happy for us.”
“Okay, let’s tell them together then.”
After we have our little conversation, we just stay nose to nose and embrace each other’s blissful presence for a while. Then once again, our mouths touch, as well as our naked bodies, and experience the taste of pleasure we have for each other.
Hey there!! Could you do a domestic jongtae cute fluff where Jonghyun and Taemin are cuddly boyfriends who love soft head scratches & back scratches? I loved the Taekey domestic AU back scratch ones 💓💓💓 (Pls wrote this in fanfic form?)😌 -Anon
Domestic Jongtae- Soft
Taemin’s hair was always so soft.
Jonghyun was home alone on a friday evening waiting for his boyfriend to get to there. They were supposed to have a stay home date tonight at Jonghyun’s apartment. Jonghyun had a candle lit on his small table big enough for two and he was in the kitchen, humming along to the radio and stirring the pork stew he had made for their dinner. He had garlic rolls in the oven and a bowl of melon balls ready in the fridge. He heard his door opening and shutting and then the honey-like voice of his boyfriend
“Honey, I’m home~” He called in a singsong like tone.
Jonghyun smiled and told him that he was in the kitchen as he opened the kitchen cabinet to grab out two plates and two bowls. He stood on his tiptoes to reach for the plates Taemin had put on the highest shelf last time he’d done dishes. While struggling to get a grip of two plates, Jonghyun felt and arm wrap around his waist and he saw Taemin reach out and grad two plates, just centimeters our of Jonghyun’s reach. Jonghyun pouted cutely at his boyfriend, turning as Taemin set the plates on the counter. Jonghyun’s eyes widened, “Babe.... your hair... it’s so... wow.” he stammered, reaching to run his hands through the newly cut and dyed blue hair. “mmm... it still soft too” He whispered, eyes scanning Taemin’s face.
“Yeah, that’s why I’m a bit late, they couldn’t find the color I wanted so I had to pick a different one becuase I was not going to leave with my hair just bleached white” Taemin smiled at the shorter man.
Jonghyun grinned, “But that white hair looked so good on you, maybe you should grow it longer like that next, hm?” he said, moving to hug Taemin close to him, one hand running through the younger’s soft hair. He loved how soft it always was.
“Are you saying you don’t like my hair short like this?” Taemin pouted, nuzzling his cheek against the side of Jonghyun’s face.
Jonghyun shook his head a bit, “No, you always look really hot, and stuff, but if your hair is long, there is more to pet and play with.” he mumbled.
Taemin laughed and pulled away from their embrace. “I swear you think I’m a cat sometimes”
Jonghyun smirked, “Meow meow” he mocked, turning to the empty bowls and plates on the counter behind him.
Taemin sat on the empty counter on the other end of the kitchen, watching his boyfriend plate the food he’d made with a sweet smile on his face, he was absolutely in love with Jonghyun, so so in love.
Their dinner was filled with light banter with lots of praise to Jonghyun’s cooking abilities and lots of teasing about how Taemin wouldn’t survive without him.
Taemin couldn’t agree more
After dinner, Taemin did the dishes and cleaned up for Jonghyun, while the elder went and picked a movie and got their cuddle blanket (reserved only for cuddles) out of his room.
When Jonghyun came out of the bedroom, he saw Taemin waiting for him on the couch and he smiled and pasued before entering the livingroom fully. He bit him lip as his eyes scanned the new head of blue hair his boyfriend was sporting. It really was a good fit for the younger, but if he had to be honest, he would bet that any color would look amazing on his Taemin. Jonghyun was ripped from his thoughts when he heard Taemin call to him. He blinked and made eye contact, shrugging at the younger and joining him on the couch with their cuddle blanket.
“Big or little spoon tonight?” Taemin asked quietly nuzzling his face into Jonghyun’s shoulder. They would typically switch places depending on the night or situation. Jonghyun grinned, “Big, I want to play with your hair.” he said, moving to lay down and make space for Taemin on the wide couch.
“Yessss” Taemin hissed moving off the couch and then back on, cuddling into Jonghyun after turning the light off and starting their movie.
Once they shifted into a comfortable position where they could both still see the screen, Jonghyun ran his hand up Taemin’s side and found his hair, rubbing his scalp softly and playing with his hair. Within minutes he heard a snore and giggled, Taemin, as always, had fallen asleep. The younger did love it when Jonghyun played with his hair.
A/N I tried, and I hope you enjoyed it. I didn’t proof read this as I don’t have the patience currently, I just want to cry tbh, but it’d okay. Jongtae always makes me feel a bit better. I hope you enjoyed the tooth decaying fluuf.

"Shut up!" Taemin screeches sharply, and they stop whooping and cheering and laughing abruptly.
All four stand frozen, silent, watching him carefully, and he hates the looking, hates how he can feel their worried looks all over his skin. He lets out an aborted yell and pushes past them, rushing to his bedroom and slamming the door. The slam echoes in his brain so he opens it then closes it softly, breathing out at the sound of the gentle click.
He grabs one of his crop tops, the softest one that he never wears out, the one that's pastel pink with little flowers on it, matching his current hair colour exactly. Then he switches off all the lights, save his little nightlight in the corner, and buries into his duvet and flops around until he gets comfy. He doesn’t.
Still hidden beneath the duvet, he finds his trusty iPod under his pillow, enjoying the coolness of it against his fingers in contrast to the warmth of his little nest, then smashes the buttons and sends the text to Jinki.
Jinki opens the door softly barely 30 seconds later.
"Sweetheart?" Taemin makes a pleased gurgle and decides to sneak his hands out of his den and wiggle his fingers at Jinki. "Hey little fingers."
"Blan?" Taemin asks, the 'ket' bit refusing to come out. He doesn't worry though, because Jinki's very good at this sort of thing. Sure enough, the next thing he feels is the comforting weight of his woven blanket on top of him.
"Want me to stay?"
Taemin doesn't know so he doesn't say anything.
"I'll be quiet. We could just cuddle."
Taemin waves his fingers and manages to catch onto Jinki's shirt, pulling him closer. Jinki peels back the duvet and Taemin scooches over enough for him to climb in. Jinki's heat is enough for Taemin to pull the blankets down to feel the cool air on his face. He nuzzles his nose into Jinki's arm and they tangle their legs together. As per usual, Taemin's hands sneak down to rest on Jinki's thighs; Jinki muffles his laugh as Taemin kneads his thighs and lets out a little sigh of relief. He loves how warm they are, all squishy on the surface and firm muscle beneath.
They stay like that until Taemin's iPod vibrates. He flinches out of his doze and groans into Jinki's armpit, as Jinki continues to snore through the disturbance. The bright screen hurts his eyes.
'hey babs, dinner is ready if u and jinks want to come out?'
Taemin takes a deep breath and frowns at the buttons, moving his sleepy fingers carefully.
'jinki is aslep should i move or???'
‘can i come in?’
‘ok’
A moment later the door opens and Jonghyun creeps in on tiptoe, smiling when Taemin pokes his head up from where he’s tucked under Jinki’s wing, his pink hair all tousled, just barely lit by the nightlight, the warm light catching in the wayward strands. Jonghyun wants to ruffle it up even more. Taemin smiles back, tilting his head up a little, his eyes crinkling.
“Hey tiny strawberry.” Jonghyun giggles.
Taemin gurgles happily, then laughs outright when he realises what Jonghyun’s wearing, before slapping a hand over his mouth to prevent himself from waking Jinki. He carefully extracts himself from the sleeping man - who snores and snuffles as he rolls over and buries his face into the pillow where Taemin’s head was just a second ago - and scrambles out of bed to lunge at Jonghyun, who isn’t ready to catch him at all.
He still manages to. (He always does.)
“What, what, what?” He whispers, breathy and amused down Taemin’s ear; it tickles and Taemin digs his fingers into the hot skin of Jonghyun’s waist to make him stop.
Then, in response, Taemin pulls back and wriggles his chest a bit so his watermelon pink top flutters, then drags his fingertips up Jonghyun’s sides to latch onto the tassels at the hem of Jonghyun’s pale sapphire crop top.
“Oh, we’re matching.”
Jonghyun’s bright eyes sparkle in the faint light, making Taemin feel sparkly too.
Jinki mumbles something loudly and they muffle their laughs, and then creep out of the room, shutting the door carefully behind them. Taemin doesn’t fully disentangle himself from Jonghyun, but the other man doesn’t seem to mind at all; if anything, he wraps his lovely, muscly arms around Taemin’s waist and holds him up, supports him, keeps him close.
Before they head down the little corridor to the living room, from which comes the indistinct sounds of cackling - Kibum - and Minho yelling jokingly at him to stop, Jonghyun brings them to a halt.
“How are we feeling about noise right now?”
Even that sentence, as short as it was, as gently as Jonghyun says it, pierces Taemin’s head, each syllable and tiny intake of oxygen echoing around his skull and he bites his lip against a pathetic whimper and nuzzles into Jonghyun’s armpit.
“Shh, baby.”
Jonghyun slips away, leaving Taemin in the corridor, and Taemin doesn’t try and hear what he says to Minho and Kibum, just leans against the wall, and then crouches when the wall feels too cold and impersonal after Jonghyun’s warmth, and lets himself drift off. He likes the pattern on the carpet, the swirls like waves, remembering fondly that first month when they all moved in together and Kibum took them out all the time for house designing - he would keep remembering absolutely essential things - and they all had to give the ok before Kibum bought anything, from the mirror hanging at the end of the hallway to the scented hand soap.
“Why’re you smiling, bab?” Jonghyun crouches next to him.
He tilts his head and his blonde hair flops across his cheeks and his shiny eyes blink at Taemin kindly and he looks so soft and tiny and beautiful that Taemin has to swallow down a needy little whine.
Instead of replying, Taemin shakes his head and reaches out for him almost subconsciously.
Jonghyun smiles, taking Taemin’s hand and lacing their fingers together, and it makes his eyes disappear into little stars and Taemin’s eyes drop to Jonghyun’s thin pink lips and he topples forward to smush their lips together messily. Jonghyun tastes like a pleasantly surprising mix of himself and Kibum’s lip balm, though it’s a bit disconcerting because Jonghyun doesn’t usually taste like that and.
Taemin didn’t ask if he could kiss Jonghyun before he’d fallen into him.
Disappointed in himself, guilty and worried, he tumbles back, landing on his bottom, and hunkers down, sinking his neck in like a turtle; he tries to take his hand from Jonghyun’s but Jonghyun follows him, Jonghyun’s free hand hugging Taemin whilst their clasped hands are trapped between their chests.
“It’s ok, I liked it. Kiss?” Jonghyun says, coaxing Taemin out of his turtleness (that’s a word), Jonghyun’s hand sliding from Taemin’s shoulder blade to thread into the soft pink hair at the nape of Taemin’s neck. Jonghyun has no idea how Taemin keeps his hair so soft even after dyeing it all the time.
“We’re kissing on the floor.” Jonghyun chuckles, panting into Taemin’s mouth. Taemin licks the spit from his bright pink lips and decides maybe it’s nice that Jonghyun tastes a bit like Kibum; like when all five of them have those kissing sessions, which are Taemin’s favourite as long as he’s not feeling too claustrophobic or overwhelmed, when all their tastes merge, twirling together.
Taemin lets Jonghyun pull him to his feet and into the living room.
Kibum and Minho freeze mid-battle, Kibum’s leg in the air, pushing and kicking at Minho’s shoulder whenever Minho pauses in tickling Kibum mercilessly. All four of them look at each other before bursting into laughter. Minho pushes Kibum’s leg away with an air of finality and stands, heading for the kitchen to serve dinner. Taemin catches Kibum checking out Minho’s butt and giggles despite the way that hurts his head a bit.
Kibum realises he’s been caught, and winks at him, making grabby hands so Taemin stops latching onto Jonghyun and drifts across the living room to curl up next to Kibum on the sofa, the cushions still warm from Minho sitting there.
Taemin wriggles into Kibum’s space, sneaks his arms around Kibum’s thin waist, snuggles under Kibum’s arm, loving the smoothness of Kibum’s skin against the back of his neck and shoulders. With his head resting just above Kibum’s boobs, he can hear Kibum’s heartbeat. It’s super relaxing and Taemin sinks into it, melts all over Kibum’s lap.
After a while of calm, Kibum murmurs softly, being careful not to hiss because they all know just how much Taemin hates that, “We’re proud of you.” Taemin grins and sniffs Kibum’s collarbone, the familiar scent of vanilla body cream.
Minho comes out of the kitchen with dinner and the sound of the plates being put down on the table makes Taemin jump, snaps him out of his daze, breaks his calm instantly. He can feel his heartbeat speeding up, his face flushing, feels heat pouring from him, his skin not right, not right. He flaps his hands and not only does that relieve the pressure swelling below his skin but the swoosh of air against his face is also somewhat cooling. Kibum shifts to give him space but Taemin doesn’t want him to go, makes a squawk of distress as Kibum gets further away, the sound bringing Kibum back instantly.
“What d’you want, sweetheart?”
“Hair?” Taemin asks, still flapping because otherwise he’d just shake all over. He vaguely notes Minho placing one of his favourite stim toys on the seat next to him.
“Sure.” Kibum hums, turning to sit on the floor in front of him, pulling the bobble out of his hair so it fans out from the topknot, flowing down over his shoulders. It’s so beautiful that Taemin’s breath catches in his throat for a second. Today Kibum has curled the ebony strands into a tumble of black waves down to between his shoulder blades; Taemin notes the hair care and the cute lacy top Kibum’s wearing and figures it must be a girly type of day.
There’s a tiny second-long gap between Taemin stopping the flapping and burying his fingers into the silky shimmer of Kibum’s hair. He sighs deeply and barely notices how Kibum’s shoulders quake with suppressed giggles. The strands slip between the dips of his fingers and when he twists his hands they tangle around his knuckles, black lace over the tan of his hands. It’s so soft and smooth like running water, like freshly washed pure cotton bed sheets, like an old blanket.
Taemin pushes his fingertips into Kibum’s scalp, rubbing in little shapes and kneading into the roots, hands slipping forward to press gentle circles into Kibum’s temples. The massage draws little murmurs from Kibum’s lips, soft encouragement, happy purrs. At one point he sighs so deeply he almost slips down, away from Taemin, making them both laugh.
When Taemin thinks the stim toy beside him, the one with the rubber spikes that Taemin can push his fingers against until tiny white marks are left against his palm, white marks that flush into red, fascinatingly, will be ok, he sets about disentangling his hands.
Carefully, so as to not hurt Kibum, Taemin unknots his hands from the black river and instead half-curls his fingers into a comb and gently tugs through it, sweeping through the little knots. It’s not so curly when he’s done, the ringlets looser and more natural. Taemin loves it, feels like his chest is expanding with every breath and every brush of his hand over Kibum’s hair until he can actually take in oxygen, until his heartbeat slows.
“Which one?” He asks quietly, bending closer from his seat on the sofa to whisper in Kibum’s ear.
“Perhaps a Dutch braid?” Kibum suggests, but his tone is so mild it’s evident he won’t mind anything Taemin chooses. Even though Taemin kinda wishes he’d asked for a fishtail plait, he’s not that selfish and wants Kibum to enjoy this too, wants Kibum to continue letting him play with his hair, so he nods and sticks his tongue out and braids Kibum’s hair.
He likes how, just as he ends the plait, Kibum senses it and passes the hair tie back over his shoulder.
Kibum waits until Taemin pats his head, then twists around and kisses Taemin’s knee.
“Thank you.” He smiles up at Taemin and that tiny niggling worry - that Taemin had annoyed him by preventing him from eating dinner, that Taemin relied on Kibum too heavily - disappears with a flash of Kibum’s bright white teeth and another press of Kibum’s lips against the grazes on Taemin’s legs (Taemin never knows where they come from, he’s clumsy like that). “How do I look?”
Taemin reaches for the stim toy and presses his fingers in one at a time, lets half his brain occupy itself with the reassuring pressure so the other half can focus on the beautiful sight in front of him, the beautiful sight of Kibum resting is little chin on Taemin’s knees, blinking up questioningly, content to wait until Taemin’s ready, through his long, curled eyelashes. Taemin thinks he must be wearing mascara because there’s no way eyelashes could naturally be that beautiful.
“Pretty.” He whispers, slightly awed, taking one hand from stimming to stroke along Kibum’s high cheekbone.
“Want dinner?” Kibum asks, and when he smiles again his cheek wobbles under Taemin’s fingertips.
When Taemin opens his mouth to speak, it no longer feels like his tongue is swollen or his mouth full of cotton wool.
“Yes please.”
---
That night, they all watch a film together, Jinki having gotten up just in time to eat dinner with Taemin and Kibum, whilst Jonghyun and Minho had already eaten before them. Taemin lies on the cold wooden floorboards and listens to the sounds, lets the rise and fall of the words wash over him, whilst the others crowd onto the main sofa together, a mess of limbs and laughter.
“You ok down there, buttercup?”
Taemin squirms happily at the endearment and nods his head at the ceiling, missing the fond grin Jinki sends in his direction before sharing the affectionate look with the other three.
Somebody in the film shouts something and Taemin sits bolt upright, making Jonghyun jump.
“Sweetheart-“
“Sorry.”
Minho frowns a little. “For what?”
“Sorry for yelling earlier.”
Minho’s forehead smooths and he smiles. “No worries.” They all go back to watching television but Jonghyun seems to sense something, slips from the sofa to sit next to Taemin, doing that puppy-like head tilt as he waits for Taemin to continue.
Taemin clears his throat, lowers his head, butts it against Jonghyun’s shoulder. “I know you were just happy and I wanna properly thank you for being happy for me. So. Thank you.”
Jonghyun hugs him super tight and Minho carries them one at a time to bed later.
---
'this isnt rlly my scene' Taemin texts him.
Jonghyun bites his lip and turns to get Jinki's attention, only to realise Jinki is already watching his facial expressions anxiously.
"Is he texting you? Why won't he use the group chat?"
Jonghyun doesn't dignify that with a response because Jinki knows why Taemin doesn't like using the group chat. Instead he just twists the screen so Jinki can see it.
The thing is, Taemin doesn't text unless he has to. His fine motor skills aren't the best and he gets easily frustrated when his fingers just won't press the right buttons. He’s thrown his phone across the room before when spellcheck autocorrected something he'd actually spelt correctly. When he's not speaking, he prefers to use his whiteboard instead.
But he doesn't really have a choice, considering the fact that he's backstage and they're sitting in the audience.
Jinki's face crumples into a worried frown. "Do you think I could persuade them to let me back to see him? I don't want him to be alone."
Jonghyun sighs and shakes his head because there's no chance of that happening, and Jinki knows it.
"Why the long faces? Aren't you excited?" Kibum rests his chin on Jinki's shoulder and smiles at Jonghyun widely. Jonghyun instinctively smiles back, caught up once again in their pride, their happiness.
"Yeah, but look what Tae just texted me."
Kibum reads it in a flash then shakes his head like he's trying to shake thoughts out of his head.
"Don't worry so much. I'm sure he's ok. He's got his kit and he's probably just messing you around for the fun of it. He's feeling good tonight."
From beside Jonghyun, Minho pipes up. "He couldn't stop talking about how glossy his blouse was in the car."
Even before Minho has finished speaking Jonghyun's phone buzzes.
':)'
Jinki sighs like an old man and Kibum laughs obnoxiously.
"He’ll be brilliant. Don’t worry.”
When Taemin’s name is called, they’re all on the edge of their seats, craning to see him. Black hair brushed carefully, little black star earrings, dark skin smooth; Kibum had ensured it, late night skin care sessions that often dissolved into giggles and painting nails. To see him there, cheeks round with shy happiness, hands twitchy with nerves.
Jinki can hardly think with how gorgeous Taemin looks, but so small, on that stage; he wants to run up and gather him into his arms and jump about in joy. Elegant, in a neat black suit with a silky cream blouse beneath, having had a meltdown over the texture of the shirt they had bought especially.
“But Taem, you liked it in the shop-“ Kibum had been on his knees, watching helplessly from a metre away as Taemin huddled into his little gap between the wall and the closet, Taemin tapping his fingernails rhythmically against the wooden wardrobe.
Jinki had touched Kibum’s shoulder and Kibum had looked up at him in desperation.
“You go and get ready, darling. Perhaps you could grab some of your pretty blouses?” Kibum had blinked in realization and rushed off to do just that, handing all the soft, expensive, glossy ones he owned to Jinki before dressing himself up. When Taemin had snuck into the bathroom to brush his teeth, Kibum had offered to do his eyeliner.
Taemin said on the way, to Minho with whom he shared the car, how much it amazed him that Jinki always knew when Taemin wasn’t feeling 100% boy, how it wasn’t Taemin’s autism or anything, but just a small prickling dysphoria, the feeling that masculine clothes were too stiff, too harsh. Kibum’s blouses, with their patterned paneling, and feminine cut, and pastel colours, were perfect.
He will tell Kibum just how perfect after this; he’ll tell Kibum that he is perfect. And Jinki. He’s perfect too. He’ll probably tell them all, because sometimes Taemin stims just by telling them how much he loves them over and over, particularly when he’s happy, and right now he’s so happy.
He had stepped up onto stage without falling up the stairs, and now accepts his Poet Laureate award and when one of the rows, halfway back on the right hand side, whoops loudly as his fingers close around the gilt certificate, his eyes squint up with the hugeness of his smile, grinning in the direction of their love.
Other: genderfluid Tae and trans Junghee!! warning for swearing oops
Yes this is my 2nd entry for @taketaemtoyourleader‘s Crop Top Jonghyun Challenge. Elle u asked for it. So much fun to write!! 1st entry here.
In which Junghee is a sassy faerie and Tae is just too beautiful? Minho suffers, Key is sulking, Jinki the warlock is mentioned in passing.
Oh, and Junghee sparkles.
---
“Pick up the sword.”
Junghee raises an eyebrow and glances down at the aforementioned sword, where it has been thrown to lie, glinting amongst the fallen leaves.
“Are you kidding me?” She sneers.
“Did I stutter?”
Junghee brings a hand up to rub at her temples. “I’m done. I’m done. This again?”
The light of the forest filters through the high canopy and Junghee is in a patch of shade, which is totally unacceptable. She needs sunlight; not only does it lend her strength but it makes her sparkle and Junghee loves sparkling. The whole situation is unacceptable, really.
“This is a serious matter.”
Junghee wraps her arms around the nearest tree and bashes her head against it.
“Minho, please, I am not going unicorn hunting with you.”
The salamander pouts, sitting down sulkily on a conveniently placed tree stump, folding his dark limbs in close.
“But, Jungie, you promised I could choose the activity today.”
“I also warned you that I’m not doing physical exercise! Yesterday was exhausting. Do you know how stressful-Of course you don’t.” Junghee flaps her wings and flies into the beam of sunlight beside Minho, who considerately holds his palm out for her to alight upon. As the sun’s rays touch her, Junghee feels a little energy boost and, when she looks down, is temporarily mollified by the pretty glitter of her skin in the light. Then she realises Minho is looking down at her expectantly, so she glowers up at him. “All the portals closed up and I was stuck on the planet solely inhabited by cats.”
Minho’s face lights up. “I love that planet!”
Junghee stamps her foot hard enough to make Minho wince. “It’s far less loveable when every denizen is trying to eat you.”
Minho, despite his bizarre obsession with sports (such as the ever-popular water-walking races and letting-a-unicorn-go-then-finding-it-again-using-magical-swords-as-a-compass-just-for-fun), is one of the few chivalrous salamanders around; so he apologises for his lack of empathy and promptly insists Junghee choose their weekly endeavour.
“Are you sure?” She flutters both eyelashes and gauzy wings at him.
Minho is suitably charmed. “Of course, Jungie.”
“Ok, let’s go and find that moura encantada.” Minho lightly pinches her leg as she tries to fly off as quickly as possible to avoid just this.
“Junghee, you know what they’re like…” He scolds. “They’re path-guardians known for being dangerously seductive and extremely devious.”
Junghee scowls furiously because does she look stupid? Of course she knows what the moura encantada are like; she’d once been late for one of Key’s infamous parties because the dogmatic warden hadn’t let her take the right path until she’d recited a poem in Gaelic. Junghee didn’t know any poems in Gaelic - was that something people just know? does Junghee need to brush up on her Gaelic? - so she had had to use her special mirror to call Jinki and get the warlock’s advice. He was such a useful associate. (Not that Junghee uses him, please she is not that crude, and she does have a basic idea of the concepts of ‘friendship’ and ‘loyalty’. She has plenty of comrades, thank you very much.)
Speaking of, Junghee needs to get Key a present as appeasement. The nymph still refuses to talk to Junghee and turns bright purple in anger whenever Junghee approaches. Quite literally. (It is a bit tedious but Junghee won’t give in because she’s known Key since they were both tiny little sapling sprites.)
“I know. But I need to grab something from their world anyway, so we might as well swing by and at least snatch a glimpse?”
Minho sighs. “Why are you so cute and so gay?”
Junghee decides to focus on the former half of that rhetorical question because she is definitely not crushing on the gorgeous moura encantada, nope. She is cute though. “My beauty routine is very thorough.” So it should be; she learnt from the best. Really, she should have gotten Key a gift far earlier. The list of things Key has done for her is frankly embarrassingly long. Junghee wonders when in the past hundred or so years she became so morally corrupt and disinterested in integrity; she can just about remember a time when being in somebody’s debt would make her terribly agitated. Maybe her memory is going a bit. (The thought makes her a little sad.) Fussing with her skirt, Junghee offers Minho her hand impatiently.
Minho rolls his eyes - looks like he’s been spending time with Key too, interesting - and dutifully places his index finger in Junghee’s hand.
Junghee awkwardly pulls her wand out of her bra - honestly, how many years has she been doing this? how many? - and pauses before waving it. “Can I change into something prettier first?”
Minho groans.
Junghee takes that as a yes.
---
“I feel personally insulted.”
Junghee shushes him with a dismissive wave of her tiny hand.
“Please Minho, I’m trying to spy here.” She goes back to peering between the green leaves of the bush they’re hiding behind. The moura encantada is singing softly as they brush their long pink hair.
“This is our time. We’ve been scheduling this time aside for each other every week for the last quarter of a century and now you’re discarding me like this…”
Because Minho is somewhat fragile and his eyes grow to ridiculous proportions when he’s upset and if angry has a tendency to burst into flames, Junghee leaves off the espionage for a while.
“I’m really sorry. I really enjoy spending the time with you. I just…they’re just so beautiful?”
Because Minho is also easily pacified and seems to just like being in Junghee’s company, he smiles and shuffles closer.
“Here, you can perch on my shoulder. You must be getting tired.”
Junghee refrains from reminding him that flying for faeries is like breathing, requiring hardly any effort, because it’s a sweet gesture. Thus, she sits on his shoulder, glad he’s wearing a shirt for once because his bare skin is a bit hot, and resumes her spying.
It’s very confusing because where she had a perfect view, just a few moments ago, of the ethereal moura encantada where they were splashing around in the river (the droplets of water created a rainbow around them and Junghee maybe fell in love a little bit), there is now only black.
“What-“
“I thought somebody was looking!”
Ever so slowly, Junghee looks up.
The moura encantada is standing on the other side of the bush with their pink-haired head peering over the top, looking down at them curiously.
Beneath Junghee’s bottom, Minho’s shoulder is increasing in temperature, probably because the poor lad is embarrassed. Junghee is pretty mortified herself.
“Um?” Is all she manages, and then the moura encantada makes a little noise of surprise - adorable - and focuses on her.
“It wasn’t me! Take the tiny one!” Minho cries suddenly, shattering the awkward silence. He grabs Junghee and shoves her up in the other sprite’s face. Junghee pinches his thumb so he lets go. Before she can yell at him for being so rough, he sets himself on fire and disappears in a puff of dark smoke.
Junghee mutters angrily to herself, fixing her hair and straightening out her skirt and crop top.
She loves this crop top so much because it’s pale turquoise (Key says blue is her colour and Junghee agrees), and all jagged and rough at the hem, and when she flies in the sunlight it shows off her sparkly belly.
A gasp snaps Junghee out of her self-admiration and she remembers the situation and flushes an embarrassingly bright pink.
The moura encantada has beautiful eyes. Junghee realises this as those very eyes, endlessly deep, dark brown, study her in awe. Their hand comes up and a tentative finger sneaks forward, then hovers, quivering, just in front of Junghee’s shimmering stomach.
There’s a moment where their gazes meet, and then the other sprite jumps back, going a tiny bit pink themselves. Nearly the same pink as their pastel pink curls.
That blush gives Junghee the confidence to fly out into the clearing by the riverside and say, “Hi! I’m Junghee.”
“Hello Junghee. I’m Tae.” Their voice is soft and gentle and there’s this hint of cheekiness underneath that makes Junghee even more intrigued.
“No you’re not, you’re gorgeous.” Junghee retorts, before her brain catches up with her mouth and she wonders when this torturous blushing thing will end.
Tae seems delighted though, eyes sparking and a pleased, bashful smile tucking into the corners of their full lips. So Junghee guesses it counts as a win.
“Thanks. You’re really pretty too.” Tae pauses, teeth biting into those sinfully pink lips, and then continues nervously. (They’re nervous! Junghee thinks, finally accepting that she’s falling for the beautiful creature in front of her, twisting their fingers together shyly despite the mischievous shine in their eyes.) “You sparkle.” They breath, and their whisper is mint-scented and Junghee is in love, full stop. “Sparkle! It’s so pretty. Your tummy is so pretty.”
The crop top can definitely be categorised as one of Junghee’s Best Ideas.
“You can touch if you want.” She encourages.
Tae openly gapes, then pulls themself together. “Thank you.” Their fingertip is soft and warm against Junghee’s tummy and their fingernails are painted black and Junghee wants more, wants Tae to touch her more so she flutters backwards.
Tae’s face falls. “Sorry, did I poke you too hard?”
Junghee laughs. “No, sweetheart, I just need a bit of space.”
Tae’s lips form an ‘oh’. “Sometimes I need space too. That’s one of the reasons I come here, because it’s so peaceful.”
Junghee stares at Tae, at the way they glance around the clearing so fondly, then blinks. “That’s sweet, but I meant it slightly differently.” Making sure she’s in the sun so she has extra power, Junghee pulls her wand out of her bra again (not as awkward this time, nice one Junghee). Then she waves it in a complicated symbol thing, there’s a bright flash of light and the air hums with magic.
When Tae opens their eyes again, there’s a full-sized Junghee in front of them. An appreciative moan is dragged from the back of their throat. “Now you’re bigger there’re even more sparkles!”
“I can actually do more than just sparkle.” Junghee says, when Tae looks just about ready to sink to their knees and nuzzle against Junghee’s tummy. Which. Junghee wouldn’t complain, per se, but she’d like to progress a bit.
Tae blinks at her. “You do more than sparkle and do magic and look beautiful and flirt sassily?”
“Yup.”
“Moreover, you want to flirt with me?”
“Does it look like there’s anyone else here? Why wouldn’t I want to flirt with you?”
“I don’t think I can handle this.” Tae does actually look rather overwhelmed.
“Well, it’s not like the magic is that new, considering how you often trap travellers until they can answer your riddle or break your spell and guard magically cross-universe pathways…”
Tae is pulling a rather odd face.
They appear torn between worry and amusement, eyes cautious but lip quivering with held back laughter.
“What.”
“It’s just, I don’t do any of that.” Junghee knew Tae was a nice moura encantada. That’ll show Minho- “I don’t know where you got the impression I was…”
“A moura encantada?” Junghee offers. Did she really guess Tae’s faerie-type incorrectly?
“Because I’m actually a human.”
Junghee freezes. “No way.”
Tae nods shyly. “Yeah.” They glance up through their pink bangs and fluttery, long eyelashes and Junghee notices the tense lines to their shoulders and pulls herself together. It’s a shock but…
“How can a human be so beautiful?” Tae relaxes instantly, melting into a smile that crinkles their eyes.
“How can a faerie be so human-sized?”
“I’m special.” Junghee laughs. (She worked really, really hard on shape-shifting magic for many decades, and it looks like the work was finally worth it. This and the fact that Junghee is able to maintain a feminine form.)
“You are.” Tae agrees. “I’m not, though. Are you sure you still want to talk to me? Even though I’m not whatever creature you thought I was? Even though I don’t sparkle or do magic or-?”
“Actually, I was thinking we could cuddle and maybe lie in the sunlight so you can play with my sparkly tummy and compliment my wardrobe decisions as we get to know each other better.”
JONGHYUN POV
Jonghyun rubbed his hands together in an attempt to bring the feeling back into his fingers as he walked home. The dim glow of the streetlights and quiet sound of Trick-or-Treaters giggling and his heavy footfalls set an ominous atmosphere in the overcast dusk. His cheeks stung with each gust of icy wind. 'How can these kids not be freezing?' Was the only thought on his mind that wasn't about Taemin right now. The last thing he saw was Taemin's upset expression before leaving their shared home after a fight. A few hours had passed since then, Jonghyun felt it was time to make up, -or out- and he was looking forward to snuggling up with his boyfriend to get warm.
He entered the house hesitantly, hoping Taemin wouldn't be too angry with him. "Taemin-ah?" He called out as he took off his shoes and coat.
TAEMIN POV
"Taemin-ah?"
Taemin heard Jonghyun's voice call from the living room. He was moping in his room after the confrontation between him and the older, which resulted in Jonghyun storming out of the house. But after a bit of sitting there and thinking, he realised the fight was petty; so he got over it.
It was Halloween, and what was Taemin's favourite thing to do on Halloween? Scare people. He stood from his spot on the bed and opened the the door which led into a small closet. It was cramped, but would work. He hid there and waited in an attempt to scare his blond haired boyfriend.
This would be hilarious.
Happy Halloween everyone! I hope you all stayed warm, and safe, and had lots of fun! Boo and I decided to write this little JongTae short <3 Thanks for following, and lets all try to have a good rest of 2014!
Summary: In which jonghyun’s friends can’t believe that the adorable little sophomore could leave all those marks on his body.
