Y'all I'm debating getting back into writing fanfic. I've been in writing retirement since I was about 15... I AM 29.

I've so far had ideas for a Geraskier rockstars/fame/Hollywood AU and a fluffy Sam Tarly x Jon Snow piece (any other A Song of Spice and Rhani listeners in chat?👀)

...so anyways should I start writing again?

Jonsam Ficlet

uh...i come to this old dinghy bearing minimal gifts. This is based on the books only and up to half of A Feast for Crows. No spoilers past that please!

The sounds of the quill scratching against parchment once again fill his chamber.

Dear, Sam, 

I know you must be cross with me–

Jon marks that out.

No, you are surely furious with me. You’ve surely figured out my ruse, you were always the smartest of us–

His hand pauses and a thick glob of ink drips onto the paper, spreading over it and staining it with deep black. It resembles a wine stain. Jon groans and crumples the letter, tossing it beside his other failed attempts.

Of course Sam is mad at him. Jon is mad with himself. He sent the former steward on a long and tiresome journey with an ailing man, a drunk, an emotionally fragile woman, and a newborn babe that isn’t hers.

A burst of rage flashes through him. What right does Sam have to be mad at him? It was Sam who foisted the duty of Night Watch commander upon his neck like a noose.

To save me from a noose of rope.

Jon sighs. As quick as it came, his rage dissipates. Sam was only trying to help. Despite being forced to take the black, in spite of being bullied and harassed, he kept going. His cowardly friend is braving another treacherous adventure while Jon sits here, afraid to apologize. 

He has never been one for words. What sequence could he line them in to gain Sam’s forgiveness?

Jon almost didn’t send Sam to the Citadel, hells he almost sent Ghost along with them. Running the idea by said direwolf earned him a glare. Ghost perks up from his corner by the hearth to glance at him sideways.

“Calm yourself. I know you can’t swim an ocean.” Ghost huffs before laying back down. 

Jon thinks back to that moment. Sam’s cheeks were rosy from the winter chill and his intelligent eyes were shaking with fear. His heart clenched between his teeth knowing that he couldn’t protect him, but when was the last time that he needed to? Sam survived beyond the wall and managed to save Gilly and her son. He’ll survive this too.

All Jon could do in that moment was try to smile and stop himself from pulling up Sam’s hood as snowflakes melted in his hair. Sending him off was hard enough, touching him would have made things even harder.

Sam entrusted the Night Watch to him. To be worthy of that honor, he must make hard choices.

Jon stretches, feeling his shoulders pop. “You swore to come back to us, Sam.” To me. “One thing to be craven, another to be a liar.”

Keep him safe he prays to his father’s gods.

“An apology would be better in person, now that I think about it.”

My funko pops needed dusting, so I decided to use the opportunity to take new pictures…which I took into Gimp and added a snowy background. So much fun! I adored Jon & Sam from the first scene they shared in Game of Thrones!

The different metals are each a different kind of learning, gold for the study of money and accounts, silver for healing, iron for warcraft. And he said there were other meanings as well. The collar is supposed to remind a maester of the realm he serves, isn't that so? Lords are gold and knights steel, but two links can't make a chain. You also need silver and iron and lead, tin and copper and bronze and all the rest, and those are farmers and smiths and merchants and the like. A chain needs all sorts of metals, and a land needs all sorts of people."
