I've not seen anyone talking about this beautiful art by Jose Lopez from the last year, so I felt I have to share it with y'all! I'm happy to see that our seeker still lives rent free in his designer's head :3

THIS is so, so important. I remember this narrative that Lando is a brat/an asshole to his engineers coming back when Will first took a step back and Jose began filling in, and tbh Lando wasn't really any more bratty with him (except when he was given information that he could see was blatantly wrong - but I mean, what driver isn't going to be frustrated in that situation?), Will was just more used to that role and had built a rapport with Lando where he was better able to respond to those situations - be it being just as sarcastic back or simply calming Lando.

And this is NO hate to Jose at all. Lando clearly adores him as well (I can't remember the podium, it may have been one of the first ones of this season?, but I remember him joking to Jose/teasing Will over the radio with "You're my favorite/best/something along those lines race engineer" after he had helped lead Lando to a podium). But it's pretty clear that a driver and a race engineer must have a VERY special bond that will take a while of working together to form, likely. They have to know how much information the driver wants versus how much becomes a distraction, they need to know how to calm a driver who is getting frustrated, they need to know how to keep the driver healthy and focused while racing.

Idk, Lando just loves his team and wants to do well for all of them. 🥺

the main thing is they know you can't take it personally, it's a massive adrenaline rush driving the car, they're hopped up, they're not worrying about tone or mincing words and their engineers know that

think about it from your perspective when you're stressed and you snap at someone, it's not personal, it's just that feeling at the time

and yes, Lando loves his team, he tells them all the time at the end of races 🥺

and besides you know they have to have a bond bc jfc GP would've wrapped his hands around Max's neck a long time ago if they didn't have a solid relationship 😅
