A manifestation of almost 20 years of meditation by its creator Carlos Alberto Cabral - nonconforming member of Porto bourgeoisie and French culture enthusiast - Casa de Serralves eminently remains a fitting example of Streamline Moderne architecture, a latter day Art Deco form that incorporates curving forms, horizontal lines and nautical elements. The design stage of the villa drew inspiration from many, and it has also seen several interventions since completion including restoration by Álvaro Siza.
