An enigmatic figure in the design world, art director Peter Savilleâs minimal Mayfair live/work apartment designed by his friend Ben Kelly, 1996. Smoked glass, tinted mirrors, high-gloss finishes, highlighter yellow paint, creamy wall to wall carpet, black leather, Panton/Gray/Eames and contemporary art. âA soft-sculpture telephone number rendered in pink satin, a startled mannequin and the occasional paint explosion, provided a sense of spontaneity within an otherwise uber-cool interior.â - Ben Kelly Design #petersaville (at Mayfair London) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co2vBd6vAjx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

All the restaurants I want to go to are closed. Inventor of the California Roll: California Beach Rock âN Roll Sushi on Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, 1989 (now Urban Outfitters). From their old website: Established in 1981, California Beach was the original Rock n' Sushi restaurant. Founder Kazu Miyama had a dream; to bring the tradition of sushi and modernize it for Southern California. Culturally sushi had remained a classic & quiet culinary experience. But amidst the late 70's fever of beach culture in Los Angeles, the days of rock n' roll and freedom, Kazu knew sushi and loud music went hand in hand. California Beach was born. If you lived in Southern California in the 80's you remember fondly the days of loud music, sake and sushi at the Hermosa Beach seaside location. â At California Beach Rock n' Sushi, there is a long beautiful history. From the early 80's in Hermosa Beach, California, when regulars included Billy Idol, Shaquille O'Neal, Tyra Banks, O.J. Simpson & Nicole Brown. To the opening in 1985 of the Newport Beach location which Dennis Rodman from the L.A. Lakers frequented. Its Hollywood location on Melrose Avenue opened in 1989. Featured in the opening intro of the infamous Melrose Place tv show, the location was frequented by many familiar faces such as Alice Cooper. Itâs the palette in the corner for me. Peter Saville, appropriated Henri Fantin-Latour album cover for New Order, âPower, Corruption & Liesâ, 1983 âThe title seemed Machiavellian. So I went to the National Gallery looking for a Renaissance portrait of a dark prince. In the end, it was too obvious and I gave up for the day and bought some postcards from the shop. I was with my girlfriend at the time, who saw me holding a postcard of the Fantin-Latour painting of flowers and said, âYou are not thinking of that for the cover?â It was a wonderful idea. Flowers suggested the means by which power, corruption and lies infiltrate our lives. Theyâre seductive.â https://www.instagram.com/p/ChTJyHLpVnY_D8vGic0bqoWZz6sb4NyYgyj5nA0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Actor Dudley Mooreâs industrial chic, American fare restaurant 72 Market Street, Venice Beach, 1984. The celebrity hot spot was owned by Moore and producer/director Tony Bill, along with Liza Minnelli and others. Regulars of the restaurant included Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, and Los Angeles Magazine once rated them #1 chili in the city. 72 Market Street doubled as a gallery, as the art on the walls changed every three months. Dudley also owned another trendy restaurant in Beverly Hills called Maple Drive. Opened in 1990, it was the original location of Elton Johnâs Oscar after party, and Zagat rated it as having a âgreat bar sceneâ. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cgk4doFpKuxz100SZSEvhurZej2l34dXcjxMOs0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
