honestly guys im gonna break character here for a second to say how important this character is to me. as a gay woman in her 20s (and an avid gamer too :)) i have to say its hard for me to identify with anyone in any of the games ive played. from lara croft to faith in mirror’s edge, none of them have satisfied me at all. i feel like im looking at a caricature of what couldve been a strong, empowered female protagonist. for every aleksandra zaryanova i get, i receive 80 more bayonettas and honestly i cant deal with this GOSH DARN CRUD anymore. that was until january 22nd, 2016, the day sven co-op (the finest game of this generation) was released on store.steampowered.com. i know what youre thinking, sven cooperative was released in january 19, 1999. but i was not exposed to personal computers as a gaming platform until around 2010 so the popularity of half life and its spawns was beyond me. yeah pretty zany stuff right there that one of my favorite games was hidden in the dark from me all this time. but onto the matter at hand, this woman right here showed me the true meaning behind a “strong female protagonist”. game developers constantly try and fail to perfect it but its been under their noses this whole time. it doesnt take physical strength, a gritty backstory, or even normal body proportions, its that gosh dang main fricking menu. sometimes i open up sven coop just to stare at her for hours because it empowers every part of me. the game industry is so bent on male entertainment that they dont realize how stale the female characters they create are. please reblog and even steal this post for your own blog i dont care i need my girl to be out there. if you want to support the new age of videogame feminism make sure you spread awareness in anyway you can that the woman on the sven coop main menu exists. im going to comic con san diego next year and ive already got half my cosplay done as her, and i hope to see all you people (boys and girls) showing off your blue HEV suit. thank you for your time. <3
