Character Development v.22

And now for something completely different.

2013 has probably been the most difficult for me. So much loss. Probably the most lost I’ve had in the 22 years I’ve lived.

My grandmother died from terminal gallbladder cancer, right before Easter, and my grandfather died about a month afterwards, after falling into a coma and waking up to be in a vegetative state, in which my mom took him off life support. Probably my worst spring quarter in terms of my grades and academically, but it’s over at least.

I’ve moved back home to San Francisco, much to my chagrin about moving back home after college. I wanted to stay in Southern California so badly, but I knew I had to be home for my mom since she’s an only child like me.

There have been some good things that have happened admist all the sadness too, though.

For example:

That one time where Caroline and I went to downtown disney for beignet cravings, and end up wearing silly hats and magically getting tickets to an imagine dragons concert that sold out in an hour a month before.

That one time where I went into a dive bar for the first time, drank beer and failed hard at shuffleboard with Bsam, while walking around Newport a little buzzed eating donuts.

That one time where Rahul went to Disneyland with me to get my mind off of my Grandma’s cancer and we shared the mad huge uh-oa! at trader sams… got a little tipsy off it, and sobering up with a heart to heart in my car afterwards.

That one time where Caroline and Jacqui post dinner surprised me with gifts from Wondercon because they knew I couldn’t be there. I got my lucky final shirt and one of my favorite prints from an artist who inspires me.

That one night before my grandpa was going to be taken off life support, and David and his bf Isaac cheered me up at the Iron Man 3 premiere, and later that day after my grandpa died, Caroline, Krystal and many others took my mind off at Karyn’s 21st birthday and taking care of me that night.

That one day where my friends and I made our own Senior Art Exhibition since uci cut the funding, and seeing it all together in the gallery at the end. Having fun times at the opening to tearing it down, it was all worth it!

Those concerting days, from my número uno concerting buddy Caroline, from hellogoodbye, imagine dragons, the killers, the epic was of dancing around at Kroq’s weenie roast and Fall out Boy they were some good times. Shoutout to bsam/elvin for peace and Tiffani/Noreen for the hush sound fun times too. And meeting some of those bands such as Atlas Genius (ahhhh mike and Keith are sooo cute), Nico Vega and The Hush Sound (a hs dream come true for me).

Then there was the long awaited sdcc, where I initially didn’t get a badge but I pulled through in the end. I managed to hangout with all my old friends and finally, after a long awaited year hang out with Uly. It’s quite surreal when you finally see someone after a year of waiting, messaging and occassional skyping in real life, it’s an amazing feeling.

And then, the even more long awaited Pixar Tour with Yutaka and Jacqui. It was a graduation present from yutaka…and I’m still reeling from this day of all my pixar feels and the motivation to get my foot in the door to work for a company like that.

While the next few months was quite a lull, going back to school at a jc that is quite far from where I live, here’s a shoutout to my BBGURL Tiffany, whose weekly hangouts make me sane and good catchup time even though we don’t get through anything until the last damn 30 minutes. Also, my homegirl sweeeethanggg Roxas because she keeps me same with the god knows how long phone convos referencing a little bit too much Free! And 50% off (thugisa 4 lyfe).

Thanks to Jessica for being my first friend at skool yay! Here’s to sitting in the back not being conspicuous and having no idea what to turn in as lab projects~ But we passed so hoorrayyyy!

Then there was that one time where I was having an awful weekend and I got an email from live 105 saying I won a private acoustic session with Two Door Cinema Club. Even though I went alone, it was one of the most worthwhile experiences ever. Alex, Kevin and Sam are some of the most hilarious and cute men ever. They even offered to forge a doctors note because I skipped class xD

And now here’s the long long overdue message to a certain booty…(joshbuscuscoughcough)

Then there was that one time where I was I didn’t really know anyone in my history of animation class until he talked to me. We hit it off pretty well, and found lots of things in common from Up, Scott pilgrim and bee and Puppycat. We eventually started dating and he took me to concerting to not so silent night, which I’ve wanted to go to for years. Something that really connected us was the pixar short the blue umbrella, where I made him a blue one to match my red umbrella.

Recently after our final, he asked me in the cutest way possible to be his girlfriend with up soda bottle pins decorated with blue and red umbrella motifs, right in the spot we said goodbye to each other for the first time. And ever since then, we’ve shared many adventures, heart to hearts, and I can’t wait for more to come with my favorite good sir.

Here’s to more in 2014, more times through the good and the bad. But here’s to living through each day, because adventure is out there. (And my moms glaring at me for texting this on the sf waterfront ahhhhh…)

Just introduce yourself as the baddest chick in town and wear aviators and have an absurdly big cigar in your mouth with your foot on the table and it’ll be fine~ But no reallt those freaked me out too, just be honest and awesome like you always are!
