“stage-molding” KYLE - But Cha

When I watch this music video, I can understand two elements: The many meanings that the visuals alone are portraying and the camera techniques that are being used throughout the video.

The song is catchy and happy, while the overall concept is colorful, warm and romantic, but in a fun way.

After watching the video over multiple times, you can start to see that the objects in the video are coordinating with the symbols of love. For example, there are flowers in the environment, jewelry as a gift, the bathtub represents intimacy, and the spaghetti which also can represent the iconic moment from Lady and the Tramp where both dogs accidentally share close contact from the noodle being eaten.

In the beginning of the video, there are jump cuts between close up shots of the flowers and bubbles with the bathtub in the background. This could be a build up into the song that already signifies something romantic and happy about the video. There are slight signs of the horizontal plane in motion when the video shows the “date” scene. The camera eases from one side to the other while Kyle raps in order to feel that we, as the viewer, are on the date alongside him. This plane is also shown as we get many closeups and slow zoom ins and outs of Kyle, the dog, and both of them together. These zoom-ins show the emotion and attraction coming from both characters.

The spatial mobility in this video is hard to capture, but it is still noticeable. When Kyle picks up or bounces the cadence in his verses, there are quick motion blurs and jump cuts between scenes as he raps. This editing technique helps the viewer feel his lyrics come to life.

There aren’t an abundance of different camera angles and other techniques used in this video that could’ve made it visually more expressive. However the full picture and affection of the music video, as a whole, does come together to express its message and that’s important.
