"Oh yes, sir. I can boogie." Dance Show Reviews!

Hey, gang! Here’s where you can drop your reviews of the dance show, and Disqus it with other actors. I think one word to sum up the dance show would be unrestrained. The show was very free, fun and filled with frolicking. It left a very energised vibe in the room, was filled with songs that everyone was familiar with and had so much style; you just couldn’t help but boogie along.

A Day In The Life Of... Reviews

Howdy, all. Josh Heap, here.

I noticed no one started up a post about the music show reviews, so I'm kickstarting that. Please post your reviews below, and feel free to Disqus it. We supported our theatre by selling it and seeing it, and were treated to a pretty awesome show, especially as the songs were mixed and known songs, covered well by a 30 piece rock band, which is a pretty rare sight in itself, in theatre.

Conference 1 Reviews and Notes

Hey, guys! I've noticed no one in our conference posted up about reviews or notes, so I'm dropping by with that now. (Sorry for the lateness)

The directors also reminded us that we can all fix and improve on what we're not doing so good on right now - I think that's a lovely note to help us all pull ourselves up and getting on with what we need to do. Stay positive, everyone!

Hey fellas, and directors!

Since it is the centenary year of WW1, the BBC are looking absolutely everywhere for news and stories around that time, from documentation to living people. Apparently they are scouring the nation looking for any WW1 related things - and what better than the Miskin's own Beano? I was thinking we could contact the BBC and let them know about our show, and aid them in their search for all things First World War.

The Yorkshire Accent: Origins and Development

Hello, actors!

When talking yesterday about the Yorkshire accent, Robbie advised that we maybe find the origins of the Yorkshire accent that we will all soon be speaking. I found some pretty interesting things. 

The Yorkshire accent is also referred to as "Tyke", which Robbie mentioned might be the name of a character in The Beano. The Broad of Yorkshire is also another name for it, and has origins in both Old English (Shakespearian times) and Old Norse (the Vikings' time, where Odin is the god of life and rules over all, Thor is the god of thunder and lightning, and Loki is the god of misfortune, mischief and misdeeds!) and actually splits in to two main dialects.

Social Classes, Laws and Unrest circa 1910 - 1915

Hello, actors! I was researching the social classes and laws of the wartime/pre-war era, and discovered these lovely links to some very informative articles about how women had to live, the working class, and the unrest of both during 1910 -1915.

I think it's interesting to compare then to now, especially the fact that the pay for women was £18 a year whereas nowadays some people earn that every hour. And the article shows how far away we still are in Britain from Women's equal rights.
