person of interest was so cool because that show absolutely hated the american government ... it was like, cops? all corrupt. the nsa? corrupt. the cia, most corrupt. congress? filthy. they left no branch spared. the deeper the show's mythology and conspiracy gets, the more corrupt the state becomes. they kill and kill and kill anyone who isn't a willing participant in the system. an agent is literally named Control because she is representative of the empire's need to imprison and conquer. carter starts off as a straight edge cop with a moral compass but slowly becomes more vigilante as time passes because the system she believes in is broken. reese's whole deal was that the cia used him and turned him into a heartless machine. and this was all on CBS network ... you got to hand it over to jonathan nolan.
Person of Interest + the sacrosanctity of friendship.
one of my favourite things abt person of interest as a first time viewer is its handling of physical touch. im only half way through season 2 for context but i adore how its used....its so rare between these characters, and the fact is they dont NEED physical touch for us to understand how deeply they care abt the other, so when it IS utilised its genuinely touching and always hits deeper as an emotional moment. carter and reese grabbing each other's forearms while his bomb vest ticks down. finch unbuttoning reeses shirt. when reese saves and reunites carter w her son, and it looks like she wants to hug him, but the absence of her reaching out actually conveys her gratitude more bc of how they function. like woah. hello. and thats not even me witnessing the root and shaw of it all. why is no one else talking abt this (me watching a show thats 15 years old)
