Marvel Cinematic Universe Fanfic Recommendations

Some of my favorite MCU fanfics. Admittedly, I’m biased towards Iron Man and Spider-Man fics. I decided to limit my list to include only at most 1 fic per author. But I ended up mentioning other works by the same author in my babble, anyway. These are sorted by published date (earliest first).

Everything this author writes is great! Combine that with my love for clothes-sharing, and this fic hits me right in the feels. This author writes amazing Gen fics so check out her other works, even outside the MCU fandom! Other MCU fics I like: Occupational Hazard <Peter Parker & Ned & Michelle> and A Different Kind of Mask <Matt Murdock & Peter Parker>.

Platonic soulmates are my jam!!! There’s so few Peter&Tony platonic soulmate fics, but I’m just glad that amazing ones such as this exist. This author also has another awesome soulmate fic (Everything, All At Once). But who am I kidding, this author has a LOT of awesome Iron Man and Spider-Man fics so check them all out. The hardest part in this list was figuring out which one to include. I’m writing down my other favorites anyway because while Born to Cherish came out on top today, I probably change my favorite every day: Darling Boy, The Geographic Equation of Love, Apartment 43B.

The combination of angst and fluff in this one is amazing. All the little details throughout the fic make that ending just a little more beautiful and bittersweet.

So I said this was a recommendation list. And it is! I do recommend those fics a lot. But well, my ulterior motive was to give whoever’s reading this an idea of what I like so I could, maybe, possibly, hopefully get fic suggestions in return? :D

I read mostly Gen. But romantic relationships are fine, too, depending on the pairing. Even if I don’t like a pairing, if it’s background, might still be okay, too.

1. How’s your day been?

I’ve been lowkey depressed this entire past week and last night was extra rough (not gonna get into it here lol) so today I was just meh, but it was a vast improvement compared to the previous days. Had to dress up and make myself presentable for that one 3-hour class I have over Zoom. Three of my classmates ended up crying because they haven’t had “face to face” interaction with anyone since last week (due to the long Easter weekend at university) and the first half of class just...devolved into us ranting. Our professor is 34yo and he’s very cool and understanding. He considers this almost therapy for us lol

2. What is the last thing that made you smile?

I just took a selfie for this ask and smiled because I actually liked how I looked in it and in the bomb ass lighting (you’ll see!). Ever since the developer that owns our neighborhood cut down the forest behind our house, my bedroom (which used to be so dark and depressing) has been flooded with light and I can watch the sunset from there every day when it’s clear.

3. What’s keeping you entertained these days?

Reminding myself of the bajillion things I have to do and then sitting there in complete executive dysfunction for hours stressing about the bajillion things I still haven’t done and need the exact moment of hyperfocus to do (turns out I have adhd)

4. If you are in some kind of quarantine/self isolation: is there anything you’d like to achieve in this time?

I’m not gonna list my work- or school-related goals here...I am going to sew more cotton masks for my nurse/medical worker friends!

idk why but when i’m sad and the lighting is bomb my face just glows :’D

Are you staying home from work/school?

I’m a professor and a PhD student, so I teach and take classes from home. It’s been a real adjustment from being able to do very physical activities and games with my kids, to only seeing them on Zoom. Checking papers was something I didn’t realize would become so challenging when I do them online rather than by hand (due to my attention span issues and bad eyes lol). I’ve also struggled to access physical books that aren’t available online, so...well. It’s a weird situation all around.

If you’re staying home, who’s there with you?

I’m staying with my mum

Are you a homebody?

I would be, if home always felt safe for me. But before the quarantine, despite being an introvert, I looked forward to going out to work a couple hours a day where I could be myself, go by my preferred name and pronouns, feel safe, etc.

What movies have you watched recently?

Historical stuff and swashbucklers! Like The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) and The Man in the Iron Mask (1998).

An event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled?

I was gonna travel to São Paulo, Brazil, over the summer, as a teaching assistant with my Portuguese professor to help him teach the study abroad program for a large group of undergrad students from our university. It would have been the second time I ever traveled in my life :P

What music are you listening to?

A bunch of classical and neoclassical soundtrack pieces that somebody on Spotify put together that are related to the Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Call Me By Your Name soundtracks

What are you reading?

A lot of irondad and merthur fanfic (+ stuff I beta read for my friends), academic papers on black Dominican poetry bc I’m writing an article for publication about that, and The Region of Lost Names by Fred Arroyo.

What are you doing for self-care?

Writing a lot of fanfic/drabbles to de-stress, discovering new playlists on Spotify every day, sewing on the weekends, doing yoga when I can get around to it, singing, and dressing up super elegant for work to give myself self-respect and routine :)
