Silver Linings Playbook is a great movie, Joy is decent and American Hustle is… something (the critics liked it though for some reason) but why is it in all these movies, Jennifer is playing way older than her age. Like most actresses in their early 20s want to play their age or younger because they’re not gonna be able to pull it off for much longer but she was always playing way older.
JOY 2015
✨ Joy — Thoughts
finished watching: april 2024 mood: drama, business
💭 thoughts (with spoilers lol):
a weirdly good and satisfying entrepreneur movie about a woman who managed to build an empire of business that sold many new innovations. to reach this stage of her life, she had overcame many challenges financially and emotionally. with a broken family background, she tried her best to satisfy everybody as a mother and daughter. despite the hardship, he ex-husband became her best friend to pick her up when she was at the bottom of her life. she was also blessed with an easy daughter who gave her strength and hope to finally achieve her dream to take care of her family.
her first invention was a mop which she kept improving to finally meet the standard of other products in the market. the way she rose to the top game me goosebumps. it definitely took a lot of courage and patients to go through what she did. it was not for most people. respect!
score: 10/10 re-watchability: no
"We're here today to remember what was lost 17 years ago. Do you remember? (...)
We've been hiding for 17 years. When you're hiding you're safe, because people can't see you. But funny thing about hiding, you're even hidden from yourself"
I have watched the 2015 movie Joy and. it was. incredible.
I actually decided to watch it basically for Jennifer Lawrence and I wasn’t expecting to like it this much, but God, what a wonderful movie I came across.
Joy is the story of a brilliant woman trapped in a life that is nothing like the one she dreamt about. She dropped out of school to help her parents through their divorce, her mother spends her life watching soap operas in her room, her father is in and out of relationships and he seeks shelter at her house when he is dumped by a woman. Joy, the protagonist, has a not really satisfying job, two kids and an ex-husband who lives in her basement, and it seems like her dreams are out of reach right now.
The movie tells the story of how she changed her life for the better, putting everything on the table to success with her invention.
Positive things that I’d like to underline:
Jennifer. She is a pleasure to watch, she is a really good actress.
The lack of romance. There was a female protagonist but the plot wasn’t focused on romance, there was no romance whatsever for her except in a couple of brief flashbacks with her ex husband. It’s so rare and so awesome.
Joy’s relationship with her ex husband. They. are. friends. They are very good friends. They help and support each other through the whole movie and I love that the failure of their marriage didn’t make them loathe each other. I am always so happy whenever I find a good male/female friendship in the media, it doesn’t happen often enough.
In conclusion. If you have a couple of hours to spare, I would recommend watching this movie.

Joy (2015) – Movie Review
Belief is the best weapon – Joy
This is not a typical story or article that I write, this is something out of my comfort zone, and however, after watching this movie, as recommended by one of my best friend, I felt the urge to write a review on it mainly because I can somehow relate to the character ‘Joy’ and I loved the concept of the movie.
Joy is a well-crafted biographical comedy movie, based on a true story, written and directed by David O. Russell, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert Di Nero and some other lovely faces that you might probably recognize..
This is an inspirational movie based on women entrepreneurship and female empowerment which starts off with a little girl, named Joy with real ambitions and goals of creating wonderful things. Unlike other little girls, Joy is the kind of girl who is focused on her ambitions and believes that she will grow up to become strong independent women who doesn’t need a prince in order to have all of the luxuries of life
However, her life turns out to be the opposite of what she had imagined when she meet a guy, gets married and has two children. She then struggles as a single mom, living with her divorced mother, Terry who spends all day in bed watching soap operas, her father Rudy, the owner of a failing heavy-duty garage, whose girlfriend, Sharon dropped him off to Joy’s door because she couldn’t handle him anymore, joy’s ex-husband Tony, a less than successful aspiring Latino singer and her two children, her grandmother who has been the only central support under one roof, trying to get everything in place. Joy and her ex-husband were much better best friends than they were husband and wife.
This movie then takes a turn when Joy knocks out one night and wakes up with a sudden realization that she needs to be herself. She decides to stop letting her buried incomplete childhood dreams haunt her and from that point she comes up with the incredible Miracle Mop.
With her family’s support and financial help by Rudy’s current wealthy girlfriend, Joy becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a powerful matron after inventing the Miracle Mop.
This movie puts focus on the hard work and effort that goes into making something what we see as simple.
Her journey for inventing the miracle mop was not easy. She has her weak moments where she is about to lose it but because she believes in herself and her dream, she fights hard with herself and the people who knocks her down and faces her struggles with her head held high. Joy’s inner belief and her ardent imagination carry her through the storm she faces
