Dear PREO fans,

It hasn’t even been a week since the release of Kanto Symphony, but guess what?

My album of orchestral music from Pokémon Red and Blue is currently sitting at #26 overall on the iTunes Top 30 Albums chart, and #2 on the Soundtracks chart!!

I couldn’t have done this without all of you. Kanto Symphony is a musical expression of my childhood memories with Pokémon and how I imagined going on an epic Pokémon journey would feel. The fact that the album resonates with so many Pokémon and video game fans has sent me over the moon with happiness.

Kanto Symphony, the orchestral album of music from Pokémon Red and Blue, will be making its streaming debut on YouTube in October of this year.

Prepare for trouble (and make it double!): the full HD tracks will later be available for purchase on both iTunes International and the Joypad Records storefront.

Kanto Symphony Update #4: The album is getting licensed! + General update

Recently, I decided to team up with Joypad Records to fully license my upcoming Pokemon Reorchestrated album "Kanto Symphony." Joypad Records is an independent San Francisco–based label that provides copyright clearance, digital distribution, and royalty reporting for video game music covers. Their goal is to make it as easy as possible for musicians such as myself to get their music out to the world without having to worry about the legal complications of selling and streaming their music.

With Joypad's help, the downloadable album will be released on the iTunes store and possibly other online distributors while free, streaming versions of the tracks will be found on my official YouTube channel (complete with art for individual tracks!). This ensures that everyone will be able to listen to, purchase, and enjoy Kanto Symphony. It's also a move that will not only support the growth of Pokemon Reorchestrated, but one that will also give The Pokemon Company their fair share of royalties for allowing me to put an orchestral spin on their game music for over 2 years now. ^_^;

How's the album coming?

A lot of progress has been made on the album thanks to the wonders of coffee, plenty of carbohydrates, and spending every moment outside of my day job arranging tracks. My friends and family have been very understanding and supportive of my endeavors with "Kanto" even though I've barely gotten to see them since I first began work on the music. I promised them a giant Pokemon party when the album is finally complete to make up for lost time!

But for now, I am completely devoted to realizing my cinematic renditions of Red and Blue's music, which has proven to be tricky as I try to balance keeping the core Pokemon "essence" intact and introducing refreshing new material in every piece I write. A little bit of old and new in tracks like that demands hours of detail work, refinement, and rewrites before my inner child is satisfied with the result. In fact, my dorky, Pokemon-loving inner child has been my creative compass this entire time and ultimately delivers the final seal of approval on a piece. Oh, and if anyone doubts the validity of my fanaticism, one need only look around my room to see that for me, PKMN IS SRS BZNS, K.

Any idea when "Kanto" will be complete?

While I'm not ready to reveal a release date yet, I am growing more and more confident that I'll be able to share one relatively soon. The sheer speed I've been working at now compared to my semi-monthly releases of the past still surprises me.

As the album nears completion, I'll be sure to host a Pokemon Reorchestrated livestream so I can chat with PREO fans in realtime and answer any questions they might have about the music itself! I think some of the Kanto Symphony soloists are also interested in making an appearance, so I'll try to round up everyone for a good ol' session of geekiness and music. Looking forward to talking with everyone soon!
