part of me wishes we got the 35th-40th games (like one of the games in that range) instead of qq2 in this book. 50 seemed too far from tbosas/too close to cf to really show the transition between lucy and katniss properly, and maybe we could've gotten a glimpse of what was happening in a district other than 12 too. I don't know, I don't think sotr was completely a cash-grab (it's clear she really wanted to make a point about propoganda etc), but it felt incomplete to me, like there were so many other things she could've done or explored instead of what we got.
it just felt so pointless and like everything was built for a “big reveal” in a movie but not in the fun gripping way that thg was paced but in the, like, disney live action remake way where they’re like you remember THIS GUY? well HERE COMES … THIS GUY! and it’s like right but what about … you know … the story
the thing is i just don’t even care to explore more hunger games. i don’t! like we know what we need to know. tbosas was fun and felt like a tasteful spinoff but this is just so … ugh. it’s so clearly built as a cash grab and a movie franchise after the success of the tbosas movie that it just annoys me. do i care, REALLY, what happened in the other hunger games?? no, not really, not outside of fanfic and fan speculation. if we HAD to get more thg universe, i’d rather get, like, career training school in district 4 or something. the first hunger games book was good because we had no idea what to expect. im tired of reading about the arena.
but like ive been saying since the start i just want her to write a new series. like bring back the gregor energy queen, give us a new fantastical wartorn universe to explore these themes. we do not need mister “stay alive” to get retconned into a flop teenager with a lame girlfriend and cameos by all the hunger games all stars to talk about propaganda. we could literally do it any other way
