Failing to Find Joy
The stresses of being a teacher do not come lightly. This week has definitely been one of the more trying weeks in my career. The class that they have me stationed in is a super tough one. I teach in Headstart. These babies need extra love, attention, and dedication, because they may not be getting it at home. But this week, I got mad. It’s been super crazy because I am not even a teacher. I am a Behavior Assistant. I work with the kiddos (one on one) who need a little extra help getting through the day due to severe behaviors or special needs.
Stress does not even begin to cover the majority of the definition of what my life has been lately. I was diagnosed, put in a tough classroom, I’m doing our Christmas play at church, I’m trying to keep up with MY work that I need to do for my actual job, keep my house clean, cook supper, eat healthy, workout AND get 8 hours of sleep. I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I was failing to find joy, and and refusing to see the good until....
So, yesterday I got sick. Pink eye, ear infection, and the start of bronchitis.
YALL, I HAVE LOST TEN POUNDS!
To see 284.4 on that scale, totally changed my attitude. Sure, I felt like I was dying, but the JOY coming from inside me, could have probably lit up the entire exam room. And then, I had to go to the store, and I found keto chocolate chip pancakes.
So, I may be stressed, I may cry. I may throw myself a pity party, but joy can still exist. I’m learning that it’s okay to not be okay. I’m learning that your day may be full of cow manure, but you can still find that thread of hope and joy. Whether it’s through one of my babies telling me they love me, losing weight, or finding my favorite pancakes.
Joy still exists.
