JOB RESEARCH: URBAN OUTFITTERS WEB STYLING ASSISTANT
JOB RESEARCH- ASOS Magazine Junior Designer
This job really appeals to me as I’m keen to gain more experience in fashion editorial/styling work. I’ve always enjoyed reading ASOS magazine and feel it’s style is one I understand well. As my portfolio will demonstrate, I enjoy communicating concepts through both graphic design and tactile measures and I feel my portfolio would be suitable for this job opportunity.
Job research: ASOS - Internal Communications Assistant (Found at: https://the-dots.com/jobs/internal-communications-assistant-100274 )
This job appeals to me as an eclectic and exciting opportunity. I wouldn’t be limited to fashion related design, being able to develop my creative writing skills. I like ASOS’s communicative style, being a regular reader of their magazine and I feel I would enjoy being part of a team that created campaigns for them.
Job Research: Urban Outfitters - Womenswear Designer.
If I am to start into a designer career, it seems high street brands are the best place to start and gain experience. I am very conscious of fast-fashion issues and the environmental/ethical effects of buying into cheap, low quality brands. Amongst high street retailers, Urban Outfitters is the one I favour most. I believe their garments are good quality as well as creative.
This design job is one that appeals to me because I feel my artistic design style can suitably be applied to UO’s target market. If I choose to apply for this job or of a similar nature, I must adapt my portfolio for a commercial audience, focussing on technical flats and fashion forward, trend predicting visions.
Job research - H&M Fashion Design Assistant (Found on : http://www.fashionworkie.com/job/fashion-design-assistant)
H&M is a high street brand I admire as I feel they bring a progressive approach to commercial fashion. Their advertising campaigns promote diversity through a diverse model casting, showing alternate individuals to the typical ‘socially accepted ideal’ of beauty that most fashion campaigns embody. Not only this, they preach environmental ethicality, encouraging the public to recycle clothing in their in-store clothing banks.
Their brand philosophy is one that is similar to my own and therefore is a company I would be happy to work for. I particularly like this job role as it is based in Stockholm and I am very eager to gain a job abroad to start a new adventure after we graduate. However, I’m concerned that the actual job role would not push my design visions, as the target customer is for a the general, mass public and I’m looking to develop my eccentric style rather than commercialise it to this extent.
