COMPETITION
I was really excited to hear I have been shortlisted for the Diversity NOW x i-D competition, as I researched the All Walks organisation during my dissertation and I really admire their philosophy.Â

COMPETITION
I was really excited to hear I have been shortlisted for the Diversity NOW x i-D competition, as I researched the All Walks organisation during my dissertation and I really admire their philosophy.Â
INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT
I have set up a ‘professional’ instagram account, which i have updated over the journey of my collection. I consider this another online portfolio, one I have put on my CV so potential employers are able to see my work-in-action.Â
GRADUATE FASHION WEEK AWARD SYNOPSIS
‘Accessories Award’ - Nipple-Bocker-Glory Â
PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT
Unusual coptic stitch binding - French stitchÂ
My initial plan is to hand-bind my portfolio using Japanese stitch on the spine. However, my concern is that the portfolio will not open flat enough when reaching the later pages of it. Coptic stitch binding is an interesting alternative, where there is no spine. I love the look of this and you can be creative with the stitching techniques. However, when I enquired to Precision printing- Leeds, with my portfolio specification, they said they are unable to fold pages to A3 size as it is too large. As the coptic stitch binding needs to be in signatures, I may not be able to use this technique.Â
PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT
Throughout the course of this module, alongside the creation of my portfolio, I feel I have significantly developed my Photoshop/ Illustrator skills. If I am unsure of how to do something on one of these programmes, I research until I know how to. As a result, I have learnt many new, useful CAD techniques which will benefit my employability, as I feel increasingly confident on Adobe suit.Â
For example, the above images are screenshots of learning a new digital process, removing the background to my textured fabric swatches.
InDesign is the programme I’m least familiar with, only using it to lay out and print my documents, however I feel I have familiarised myself with essential aspects of creating a professional publication in inDesign, now understanding the importance of bleeds, slugs, linking files etc.Â
ILLUSTRATION DEVELOPMENT
Developing my ‘Hair care’ illustration for my portfolio. I’ve experimented with different brushes on Photoshop to develop my hand-drawn image. Scanning in my illustration the way I have done previously can take away from their impact, for example black lines are not as prominent once digitalised. Working into my illustrations in this way gives the artwork more depth and clarity.
BUSINESS CARD EXPERIMENTATION
Cut out section with physical fabric sample. I like this design however I feel the finish isn’t as professional as I’d like. My name here is on acetate; if I were to go ahead with this design I would either digitally print my name or screen print it. Also, I would need to check the colour settings before printing again, as my original design is a much bolder red.Â
BUSINESS CARD EXPERIMENTATION
I really like this design as I feel it is the most unique. However the text is much too small. I would need to find a way of bonding the fabric to the perspex, as the glue will most likely be visible from the front, giving an un-clean finish.Â
Also, I could bond two pieces of fabric together so the card has banana print on the back. I like the raw edge as I feel it reflects my style.Â
BUSINESS CARD EXPERIMENTATION
This is the design that I feel is most suitable. It has a professional finish and clean, clear information. Again, the front text may be a little too small but I’m really happy with the layout and the subtle curved edging. This design is also the most cost effective and least time consuming. I can produce these in large amounts and they can slip easily into potential employer’s pockets/purses etc.Â
JOB RESEARCH: URBAN OUTFITTERS WEB STYLING ASSISTANTÂ
JOB RESEARCH- ASOS Magazine Junior Designer
This job really appeals to me as I’m keen to gain more experience in fashion editorial/styling work.  I’ve always enjoyed reading ASOS magazine and feel it’s style is one I understand well. As my portfolio will demonstrate, I enjoy communicating concepts through both graphic design and tactile measures and I feel my portfolio would be suitable for this job opportunity.Â
FINAL CV.
CV DEVELOPMENTS
Experimenting with different fonts / text sizes to achieve a simultaneously professional and creative look.Â
FEMINA EXHIBITION
My ‘Hair care’ outfit exhibition space at ‘Femina’ exhibition- 18th April at the Brunswick, Leeds. It was really great to see my work exhibited amongst other female artists work who I admire and it got a great reception.
FIESTA FEM - A COLLECTIVE OF FEMINIST DOCUMENTRIESÂ
I was approached by Lissa Lionbach, a broadcast media student at Leeds Beckett university at FemFest (see previous post) to be involved in one of her documentaries. The documentary is based upon female artists in Leeds, who will be taking part in Femina -a feminist exhibition taking place on 18th April.
Lissa came to interview/film me both at my house and in the university studio to talk about my Nipple-Bocker-Glory concept and current projects I am working on. I also did a live nipple casting on Lissa, in which her colleague filmed, so she could discuss her feelings during/after the nipple casting. I then turned the casts into customised earrings for Lissa (see image 03). The interview with Lissa was more of an informal discussion, which meant I could talk at ease about my concepts. I discussed how I’ve linked Nipple-Bocker-Glory into my final collection and the recent ‘Hair care’ project. I’m really looking forwards to seeing the result of the film as any exposure of my design work is a positive progression for me.Â
PORTFOLIO INSPIRATION
I really like the edited style of the photographed garments here. I think it would be an interesting way to show some of my final garments in my portfolio, as I most likely won’t have time to shoot them professionally. This way, I can photograph key elements of the garments I have finished, and display them in a more abstract, creative style by layering techniques on photoshop.Â
