Grey’s Anatomy 13x01 “Undo” Review (Spoiler Alert)
Hello my lovies
It’s been what? Three maybe four months since the last episode of season 12 and it’s review? Damn that was a long time. So, how was my Summer? Well, I had a birthday. Yes, I’m a July born.
What else did I do? I wrote some new stories...not that you all will care cause it’s not Japril fanfics. Oh yeah, I went to camp...which really wasn’t a camp but we’re calling it that anyway. That’s about it. I’m not a party person, strangers in tight crowded places ain’t really my thing.
You guys missed me didn’t you?
I know you did. But no worries, your girl is back with a new review for the season premiere!
There was a lot going on in this episode, so you know I got a lot to say. So let’s get to it.
NB: Sorry for posting it so late
Work had me busy for longer than I thought on Friday and was pretty busy on Saturday too. I’ll try to post the next review earlier. And sorry in advance for any errors, was trying to finish this up to post it!
MEREDITH, NATHAN & MAGGIE:
I don't even know how to start for these three. It's just so messy.
So, at the wedding, Nathan is trying to hook up with Meredith, but after Maggie told her that she likes Riggs, Meredith is trying to back off. Which I appreciate because the situation just got a little bit more complicated.
Maggie ends up asking Riggs to dance, but he eventually finds his way back to Meredith, which had me thinking “Dude, can you calm your little horny ass down for a minute”.
The rest of the episode was kind of like that, Riggs somehow finding his way to Meredith.
Maggie was in this sort of conflicting state of mind. She likes Riggs, but when she heard about Deluca, she was worried and started wondering if she had made some sort of mistake in letting him go.
In a Meredith and Riggs scene, Meredith shared that she had to do something she doesn't want to do, and then told him to come sit with her. This really had me speculating. Was she talking about the Alex and Deluca thing or was this about them and Maggie? I kind of expected her to tell him that whatever it I'd they have going should stop, but not mention the whole Maggie liking him thing.
Now, Meredith knew about what really happened to Deluca and didn't tell anyone. But when she did decide to tell, Maggie got upset that she didn't tell her.
In their last scene at the house, Maggie was telling Meredith that she was upset that she lied to her, her sister, about not knowing what happened to Deluca. Maggie explained that being a sister means something different to her. She talked about accepting Meredith's offer to be apart of her family and willing to go down fighting for her. Maggie took their relationship as sisters seriously and she wants Meredith to do the same. And I understand what she's saying. Maggie felt like Alex was chosen over her, and she didn't like that. And I guess she also felt like she was kept out of the loop.
Meredith then said that she wouldn't lie to her anymore.
I didn't believe her.
Nathan showed up and wanted to know what was going on with them. He felt that there was something between them but Meredith had told him there was a problem. After a little talking she finally told him that she doesn’t feel the same way (about him I guess) and wants them to drop it.
I’m actually glad that she did that, and didn’t want to cause more drama or problems. But I think she does have some sort of feelings for Riggs and they aren’t going to go away that easily.
After he left, Maggie came down to see who it was. When Meredith told her it was no one, they were just looking for directions, I literally soghed. She lied just after telling her sister she won't lie to her again. To me, that had some underlying meaning to it. Now, she just told a little lie, but that's not going to be the end of it. We all are taught that when we tell a lie, we have to tell more lies to cover up the one we told before, and the other lie before that, and so on. I feel like this is going to be one of those situations. And feel like the lies ate going to get bigger and bigger as the season progresses.
I know that this will cause more drama, and I can't wait to see it unfold.
JAPRIL:
My babies are back!
I got so excited when I saw them on my TV screen. I can't wait so let's get right to it.
Things started up for them with the scene from the sneak peek. April heard the baby, got up and saw Catherine with her.
Tell me I'm not the only one giving Mama Avery some serious side eye?
I'm still not over what she did. And I know I'm being petty, but I'm just still upset about it. April is obviously a good Christian woman, because I would have snapped and told her to get her hands off my baby.
So, Mama Avery wanted to know what to call the baby and April said her and Jackson chose a strong name and what not and she got all hype and thought the baby’s name was Catherine. When April told her it wasn't and I saw the look on Mama Avery’s face, I was like
I did feel kinda bad for her but at the same time I was like “In your face!”
Then April informed that her name was Harriet.
Now, I'm going to be honest. At first I thought “I like it, but why did they give her that old lady name?”, because the only people we hear with a name like that, or at least me, are black older women. We all expected some name like Hannah, or Charlotte, or, I don’t know, LYDIA! But after listening to April say she was named after Harriet Tubman and the spy, I actually started to get it.
I decided to do some research on Harriet Tubman and the Harriet The Spy book, so I could better understand why she was given that name. And yes I had to do research on Harriet Tubman because I wasn't taught about her. Before you get all up in arms about that, remember, I live in the Caribbean, we aren't taught that here in school like some of you are during Black History Month. We don't even have a black history month. Everyday is black history month, because here, the minority are actually white people and black people are the majority. Anyways, after reading about these two Harriets, I totally love the name Harriet and I feel like it fits her and that this little girl will live up to it.
So, after hearing the name, Mama Avery mentioned that her the baby's full name was Harriet Avery. Now that caused a little argument between mother and grandmother. Now, Mama Avery said that she worked hard to make the Avery name what it is and that it would benefit her grandaughter to have it. Now, she has a point. Having the last name Avery will open doors for that little girl when she gets older. Then, April said that the name Kepner, where she comes from, means good people, and among other things, a fair and honest price for quality pork. I died laughing that though.
Was I the only one who thought of Jacks the pig and him being quality pork? Haha
But April also has a point too. Just because her name isn't a famous one doesn't mean that it doesn't have meaning.
But in the end, after Mama Avery had to encourage April to rest, Jackson finally showed up and informed that they were going to hyphenate the name, which I think was the best thing to do. It's not like they're married anymore…....
Mama Avery asked April why didn't she just tell her and she said “Because she’s my baby. *points to Jackson* That’s your baby. She...is MY baby”
It was just really cute to see them like that in the end.
Was she low key calling Jackson a mama’s boy though?
All this had me thinking though, if I were to ever get married (and the possibilities are lessening by the minute), would I ever take my hypothetical husband's last name and give it to my hypothetical kid? I don't know. Like I honestly don't know. I looked up my last name one time and I saw that it meant the best. Literally, my last name means “The first, the best”. Now, this hypothetical husband’s last name better mean Jesus for me to wholeheartedly want to take it. Maybe the most I'll do is hyphenate, because I don't want to give up a last name like that.
So, let's say the name together guys...
*clears throat*
Harriet Kepner-Avery.
JOLEX & DELUCA:
This whole situation was the thing that almost made me cry this episode.
NB: I might get the order of events wrong on this so please forgive me if I do!
Last season, we saw Alex beat up Deluca, and this episode started with Alex bringing him to the hospital. Everyone is trying to figure out what happened all while trying to help him, and Alex keeps avoiding answering anyone's questions. Ben was the first to notice something was up.
Jo is the one that called Meredith and she and Webber went over to their loft. When they got there, they tried asking questions but Jo didn't want to answer them. Meredith did some observing and quickly pieced together what must have happened. Webber stayed with Jo, while Meredith went to the hospital.
Now, Webber is trying to help Jo out but she doesn't want to say what really happened. But of course, Richard Webber had to drop some wisdom. I watched the scene like “Isn't it a little too early in the season for Webber to be dropping the wisdom?”. He told her “You screwed up and now everything is crashing down around you. Well you came to the right guy. Because I’ve done more than you ever will. And I can tell you from experience, with a little coffee, and a little sunlight, your troubles will get smaller. And the world will keep standing. I promise.”
Now when Webber got up to make some coffee, I was like “Watch her Richard, she's going to run!”. And what did he see when he turned around? Nothing, she was gone!
Back at the hospital, Meredith asked Alex about what happened and he told her. After that, Meredith said she won't tell and told him to say that he fell in the rain if someone asked.
So, he's trying to avoid the cops, who were called in, and Bailey, all while trying to find out what is happening with Deluca. He went to check up on him when Jo came there. That's when some arguing happened. I think that’s when we find out the reason behind Alex’s actions. He said that he thought Deluca was taking advantage of her. Jo tried to explain what really happened, but Alex cut her off, not really listening and jumping to conclusions about her wanting to sleep with Deluca because she was upset about what was happening to them.
Then he told her “You can’t help it, it’s not your fault. It’s easy for you to throw people away, to just move on when things are bad. It’s not you, it’s the way you were raised, or not raised. I wanted to marry you. I was asking you for something you’re not capable of. I should have known better.”
Alex pissed me off in this scene. Him saying “or not raised” was so shady. It hurt to hear him say he wanted to marry her. Keyword “WANTED”. I really wanted Alex to listen to her. That’s all he had to do, listen. If he did then he wouldn’t have said all he said
After that, Jo was upset, understandably and she was about to quit. That's when Stephanie showed up. I was wondering for a while where she was. So, Jo told her what happened (I don't think she told her the part about being married) and Stephanie told Meredith, who realized that Alex was wrong and told him what really happened. That’s when Meredith really started contemplating if she should tell Bailey.
Then there was that scene where Jo went to talk to Deluca. He asked her how he looked and this is how it went down for me.
Jo: “You look…”
Me: “A hot mess”
Jo: “Ugly”
Me: “That too”
She apologized to Deluca for what happened and he told her that it wasn’t her fault, it was Alex’s. I have to agree with him on that. Even though it was Jo’s drinking that lead him there, Alex was the one to throw the punches, not her. After that little bit of reassurance, Jo reminded him not to tell anyone about her being married. Deluca got mad because he thought she only came to see him to make sure her secret was safe, not because she actually cared about his well being.
Alex came in to try to talk to Deluca but the minute he saw Alex, he started freaking out, like he was literally having a panic attack. Alex had to run out of the room.
There was a scene where Webber ended up stopping Jo before she could leave and dropping some more well needed wisdom about not running away.
It's after that that Alex passed some police officers and I was hoping that he would admit to what he did.
Meredith finally decided to tell Bailey it was Alex who beat up Deluca and when they found him he had already turned himself in to the police.
They handcuffed him and walked him through the hospital, out the door and into the cop car.
I didn't know seeing Alex in handcuffs would hurt me so bad. My eyes were literally tearing up.
Like did they have to parade him through the hospital like that? Couldn’t they use some secret back exit or something?
The last scene of the episode was Meredith going to see Alex at the police station, in the cell. Alex thinks he’ll lose his job and medical license, but Mer is trying to tell him maybe not. It ends with her trying to give him some encouragement by telling him doing the grown up thing will give him some reward and he replied 15 to 20 years in prison. That was kinda funny.
Let’s talk about this whole thing. Do I think Alex is wrong? Yes, I do. I love me some Alex but he messed up here. Like he was telling Meredith in this episode, he told Jo about being adults and here he was not acting like one and jumping to conclsions. I get that he was angry about what he saw when he came in, but sometimes you have to not let your anger control your actions. And like I said before, a lot of this could have been avoided if he would have just listened to Jo in the first place. I don’t really blame Jo for this. On the other hand though, if she had told Alex the real reason she didn’t want to get married, none of this would have happened. But then again, this is a serious situation for Jo...or at least that’s the feeling I’m getting. For her to keep it from people it had to be some dangerous guy right?
I really don’t know what to expect when it comes to this couple.
CONCLUSION:
I loved this season finale. Had a little laugh, which I always love, but it had the drama and sadness that we love from Grey’s, even though we get mad at Shonda for it from time to time. Let's be real, we wouldn't be watching the show if there wasn't drama. Everyone can't be happy all the time. Like Meredith said that's not mental health, they crap!
Either way, I loved this episode!!
Lessons of the Week:
1) Don’t rush to conclusions and PUNCH PEOPLE!
2) “We’re grown ups. We can’t run, we have to face up to the stupid things we do.” - Meredith Grey
3) “The past is written, there’s no changing it. What’s done is done. But the future is ours to choose, for better or worse.” - Meredith Grey
Expectations & Wishes for Season 13:
Meredith, Maggie and Nathan:
Meredith will lie to Maggie some more, I can feel it! AND I also feel like Meredith and Riggs will sleep with each other again, probably in the back of her van again, which I may remind you was rather difficult. And Maggie is going to find out about it and be pissed.
Japril:
I cannot wait to see Jackson and Harriet interact more. I feel like it would be the cutest thing ever! And it will be really interesting to see how April and Jackson handle this whole co-parenting thing.
Now, I heard that one of them will start dating and that the other might have some sort of issue with it. I know that some fans are upset that one of them will start dating, but, I'm actually looking forward to it. I feel like it's going to be like one of those Jealous Jackson/Jealous April one-shots. I feel like Jackson will be the one dating, but I want it to be April, simply because I want to see Jackson jealous and calling April on the phone while she's on her date to tell her something is wrong with the baby, but he's lying. I think that will be fun to watch.
Harriet Kepner-Avery will parent trap her parents (kinda like in my fanfic Operation Phoenix), and I can't wait to see it.
And like I've said before, I really want to know more about Papa Avery. Like I want hear Jackson speak more about his feelings about him. It would be good to see him actually show up and cause a little drama and let that be the thing that pushes them together.
Jolex:
Like I said before, I don’t know what to expect for these two. I want them to get back together, cause I like them as a couple. Do I think she should tell Alex? Yes, because he will still want to know the answer and she can’t keep it from him forever. I think Deluca might let it slip though.
Now if Jo does tell Alex about being married, I want to see how they would tackle this. Would Alex agree to just not marry her or will he still want to get married and try to get things legally worked out?
13x02 PROMO:
The big trial starts in next week’s episode and I can’t wait! Who’s side am I on? I don’t even know. Because Alex was wrong for beating him up like that, but Alex thought his girl was being taken advantaged of and wanted to save her. So who knows which way this will go.
Well, that’s it for now! Bye, until next week, hopefully!
