PORTFOLIO RESEARCH

I’ve been looking at portfolio’s online from leading fashion universities such as Westminster / CSM, breaking down each page in my mind to see the components and compositions they have used, to see how they achieve their impact. I will be able to take inspiration from these techniques throughout the building of my own portfolio in this module.

PORTFOLIO INSPIRATION

I really like the edited style of the photographed garments here. I think it would be an interesting way to show some of my final garments in my portfolio, as I most likely won’t have time to shoot them professionally. This way, I can photograph key elements of the garments I have finished, and display them in a more abstract, creative style by layering techniques on photoshop.

PORTFOLIO RESEARCH

I love the simplicity of this page. I think the fabric looks effected scanned in, however it’s difficult to gage what the designer is trying to show. Is it simply the fabric? Why has she sewn the samples in this way? I want my portfolio to be mainly digital, however I feel it’s important to include physical samples, as although scanning in fabric looks effective, sometimes bold samples loose their impact this way.

Portfolio inspiration: Laura Lowena 

I love the use of single, juxtaposed photography here to communicate the designers inspiration. The initial images are supported by the further design development through collaging techniques.

Portfolio inspiration: SEULKI SUE LEE

I like the unconventional composition of technical flats on a photographic background here. The mixture of photography and hand drawing creates a sketchbook-like train of thought which is effective in communicating the design development.
