Cabin Living in Bells Bend, TN

Earliest this week, I had the best day ever with the best new and old friends, Monica, Asher and Taylor at Monica's cabin in Bells Bend, Tennessee.

We first went on a hike in the woods at Beaman Park, continued by a spontaneous un-ending chill time at Monica's cabin, which included coffee, avocado toast with J.Q. Dickinson Salt (you must taste it - buy now), playing Spades with Misc Goods beautiful deck of cards, photo capturing, and continued reflection and good conversation (and much fun with Monica's dog, River). 

I felt as if I were in a Kinfolk Magazine feature. That day is how I want to live everyday, but most of the time it's difficult to actually see into reality, though I'm actively trying to pursue a life centered around people, good and healthful food, natural environments and simple living. It's possible, but there will always be those days when that rotten banana is sitting on a dirty plate in the floor of my car, my clothing is way over due for a good wash, and I've got an overloaded list of things I must complete to continue making a living wage (normal living).

I'm so grateful for these opportunities to have a full day like I had earlier this week. A day full of beautiful things, photo adventures, lots of room to be quiet and enjoy good company; more room to sit back with conversation with great friends, actually looking them in the eye than the screen of my iPhone. I actually went the whole day capturing photos and didn't post even one until later than night (didn't even cross my mind). That's when you know it was a great day.

I'm grateful for friends, freedom, and this God-given earth that consistently inspires in it's array of gifts: nature, food, coffee (thanks Crema!) and great people. 

This day was truly heavenly, experienced here on earth - an idea I actively am trying to embrace each day.

A Story Series on J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works

It's very exciting to continue sharing new work we've produced for J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works, a company we've been inspired by since day one. We see much kindredness between our companies in our pursuit of our life and work, and are honored to be a part of telling their incredible story. Ideas like sustainable and healthful living, family and community heritage, the importance of our roots and a passion for furthering Appalachia, supporting local communities and economies, reminding our American culture of the importance of the family dinner table, cooking together, growing a garden together, and being good stewards of what we have; all of these ideas are important to us here at Stonestreet Creative and to what we believe will impact our world for good.

Their story is inspirational. Nancy Bruns and Lewis Payne are two 7th generation salt-making siblings continuing their families 200 year old tradition of hand-harvesting an all-natural salt from an ancient ocean trapped deep below the Appalachian mountains in the Kanawha Valley of West Virginia. 

They call their salt "Mother Nature's product" because they only use the brine, the sun and gentle mountain breezes to produce their all-natural salt. The brine is free of contaminants and heavy metals that may be found in other oceans, and produces a salt that is mineral rich and full of flavor.

Creative Direction Session / J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works

Over the last month, we have been in the Creative Direction/Pre-Production phase for the upcoming production of several films for J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works, a 7th-generation salt-making family who "hand-harvests an all-natural salt, from an ancient ocean trapped under the Appalachian mountains of the Kanawha Valley of West Virginia."  After several hours of creative planning and development, Nancy Bruns & Lewis Payne, siblings and co-creators of salt, took us out on a tour of their land & work, showing us their sun houses where they produce the salt, the well where they collect brine, and the family farm where William D. Dickinson first began producing salt along the Kanawha River in Malden, West Virginia. Here are a few photographs from the tour of the historic J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works.

On Location with Lauren Stonestreet / #JQDSalt

Heralding from the mountains of Appalachia, Lauren Stonestreet is a photographer and creative director who recently relocated to the beautiful and quaint Charlottesville, Virginia, known by many through Elle Effect Photography.

This film piece is a behind the scenes look at her work with J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works (in collaboration with Mesh | Design & Development) telling their story through stills, capturing the essence and history of this 7th generation salt-making family who have continued their families tradition of hand-harvesting an all-national salt from an ancient ocean under the Appalachian mountains, residing in the Kanawha Valley in Malden, West Virginia.

Stephen Stonestreet, our founder, followed Lauren around during the two day shoot with #JQDSalt, capturing the process of her photo shoot. We are also happy to have her as a creator/contributor here at Stonestreet Creative.
