A Giant’s Shadow: J.R.D. Tata
Today is the Punya Tithi of J.R.D. Tata. A day to remember the man who gave wings to India—literally (hello, Air India!) and figuratively.
He wasn’t just about boardrooms and balance sheets. He was about people.
He believed in an India that could make its own steel, drive its own cars, fly its own planes, and dream its own dreams.
“I don’t want India to be an economic superpower. I want India to be a happy country.” — J.R.D. Tata
Think about that for a second. In a world chasing GDP, he was chasing happiness, dignity, and progress for all.
He set up institutes for fundamental science. He pioneered worker welfare BEFORE it was cool. He built empires with a conscience.
As someone who believes in India’s industrial spirit, his legacy isn’t just inspiring—it’s a roadmap.
What I take from him:
Build to last.
Lead with ethics.
Never forget that business exists within a society, not outside it.
Raising a humble tribute to the original visionary. Your shadow is where we still learn to stand.
