Spiritualized performing at The Royal Festival Hall, London on July 1st 1998 @ John Peel’s Meltdown Festival. (Sonic Youth joined Spiritualized at the end of this set for an improvised jam). One of my favorite sayings is, “You don’t ask - you don’t get.” So in the late 90’s in London when I saw Spiritualized perform live for a television show (TFI Friday, filmed at Riverside Studios), afterwards I asked Jason Spaceman if I could get a photo pass for their upcoming performance at John Peel’s Meltdown Festival. He said yes, and scribbled down my name on a piece of paper. Months later, I nervously gave my name to the will call lady at The Royal Festival Hall; I was fully prepared to walk away with my head down, wondering what on earth possessed me to be so bold in the first place... But there it was… my name on the list with a photo pass for the entire festival!!! 🙀🙀🙀 Holy fucking shit, right?!?!?! I took a LOT of photos. I have only scanned a few so far. None of them are good in the traditional sense; but that was not my goal anyway - I was in art school! I was attempting to “paint with light” as they say…. 😹 #blurryphotosforever Whoa!!!
