“Uh, hey, could you close that? Please.” Jesse nodded his head towards the open trunk of his car, the stack of boxes in his arms blocking most of his view of whoever was passing by. “My hands are too full.”

“I’m fine. Just... haven’t slept great recently.”
“Bite me.”

All the dates and events in history were getting harder to memorize the more they came. At least this class on Native Americans was more specific that her World History class was, so it meant she only had to know a fraction of the situations that went on. But Julia couldn’t get this all to click alone, so the logical answer was to get help. She held Derek to his suggestion of helping her when needed and as they got closer, found herself in his apartment more in order to get the assistance she needed. She was growing more comfortable being around him, which was something both scary and exciting to her. It was nice to expand the people she trusted but the vulnerability she felt made her anxious. Looking through the scribbles and maelstrom that she called notes, her fingers threaded through her hair as she dechipered her thoughts from the lecture.
“Okay, I get the whole idea of what went down in the Seven Years War. I just don’t understand why this was so significant to the American colonies. If they weren’t directly involved in the war, what did they have to gain?” Julia’s views weren’t narrow but still unopened. Learning a history that contradicted and yet supposedly coexisted with the one she grew up understanding made her question nearly everything that came out of her professor’s mouth, whether it be through long emails or office hours that lasted more than the intended appointments. But neither worked and Derek really was her best option.
