Okay you know everything but here’s the Question for You: do you have a favorite reference book? For use of doing historical art or what not
Hmmm. I tend to get my visual references from the internet or physical picture libraries (though I’ve really been meaning to pick up a decorative arts book just to make my life easier) so a lot of my reference books are more like...non-fiction bricks about history rather than visual ones.
There’s a fashion book put out by the Kyoto Costume Institute published by Taschen is a really beautiful book and a good look at 18th-20th century men and women’s western fashion though. I think it miiiight be this one. I’m not sure though because the one I have has a different cover.
The Costume History by Auguste Racinet is also good. It was published in France in 1888. Goes from antiquity to the late 19th century, broken up by region serving as an overview for fashion all around the world, (but also some decorative arts), and it has a lot of visuals.Also A History of Underclothes by C. Willett and Phillis Cunnington if u wanna know EVERYTHING about western underwear from the 1400s to the 1930s. There aren’t a lot of visuals but it has a fascinating breakdown by year and garment about like...how men’s shirts changed or how the structure of dresses changed and ALL THAT.
