Congratulations to artists Juan Sánchez and Marina Gutierrez on being inducted into the Cooper Union Alumni Hall of Fame! Sanchez’s faceted glass installation “Reaching Out for Others” (2006) at the 176th Street (4) station uses hands in many colors to convey the universal symbol of people reaching out and striving. Tapping into early MTA Arts & Design poster commissions, Sánchez’s “Harlem” (1994) poster uses collage to portray the spirit of Harlem and Marina Gutierrez’s “El Museum Del Barrio” (1993) poster draws on the cultural riches that can be found at El Museo Del Barrio.
