My manager and I have become very buddy-buddy over the years, so much so that whenever I go on vacation out of state anywhere, I always find a little something to bring back for her. Over the past couple of years, she's started doing the same for me (even though I never asked her to). She does so much for me and works with my schedule so well, even when requests off become difficult to work around, and every now and then I just want her to know she's appreciated.
She just recently got back from a trip to Hawaii, and before she had left, she told me that last time she had gone, she had found a stand that was selling pearls. She knows I collect gemstones, crystals, and other earthly trinkets (she had gotten me a metal dragonfly with rainbow kyanite wings a few years back because of this fact), and she told me that she would try to bring a pearl back for me this time around.
Today, while on my way to break room, my manager stopped me and handed me a long, slender box and told me that she had gotten me something from Hawaii. I was shocked when I took the lid off. Inside, there was a beautiful string of multi-colored pearls. Each pearl was uniquely shaped, with a knot tied between each one, and I gasped. I told her, "I didn't expect you to buy me a pearl necklace!" She said, "I told you I was going to bring a pearl back for you!"
Pearls only fall between 2.5 and 4.5 on the mohs scale, so the knots between each bead work as bumpers so that they don't rub against each other and wear down over time. And somehow, those knots make each individual pearl stand out even more. I am so in love with this necklace. I just hope that she didn't spend a huge chunk of cash to get it for me. Either way, I'm going to make sure this necklace gets worn and noticed for many years to come. It is ✨️gorgeous✨️
