PSYC 1010 (online - prof Jubis)
Since most comments are related to in-person classes, here is a review of the online version of PSYC 1010. This is not your typical online course with discussions, projects, etc. All the course materials are set out on the first day or when Moodle makes it available. Jubis, the professor I had, listed all the materials (videos, powerpoints, required readings) to study from. Don’t even try passing this course without the textbook, you need it. I see many people depend on “online resources” such as CrashCourse on Youtube. Although these online resources may give you a better understanding, it will not relate to what the textbook is conveying. Jubis’ tests are mostly depended on the textbook, so reading the textbook MANDATORY. Likely two or three times or until you get the whole idea. You can buy the used or new textbook. I recommend the new textbook since it includes an pass to online modules to help you study (which it did for me!) The tests are typical - both bit easy and hard.
As for Professor Jubis, she is a caring professor. She puts her students first. Although I had seen her 4 times only (4 in-person tests), she’s very approachable and will try her best to make her students succeed.
Hi, if any of you have taken psych 1010 can you let me know how you studied for it and how much time a week you spent for that class? Will knowing the definitions and a decent understanding of the concepts be enough or will I have to learn things in detail? My prof Rebecca Jubis just posted the syllabus online and the course consists of 4 tests throughout the year (100 multiple choice + a few short answers)
Hi anon,
If I’m being quite honest I hated PSYC 1010, you pretty much have to read each chapter and absorb every concept/word in that textbook. I didn’t have a specific method for studying the course, I tried to write notes on everything (first year noob mistake) but I realised there was much to go through and it was wasting my time. The easiest way to study for this course is to start your readings from DAY 1, make notes on important concepts only (queue cards might help), if you slack on this course you won’t end up with a good grade. I found important concepts easy to remember, but the MC questions were tricky at times, so you really have to do your readings throughly.
Hope that helped a little. I had Jubis in first year Psych as well, wasn’t a huge fan. Her lecture notes are the same every single year.
