Red Wine, Firewood.
Borrowing @eatingyarn's Judith for @ockissweek
A reunion.
She isn’t sure why she agreed to this. After all, she’s done this once already. Dhe should get to rest, get to leave it all in the past. But he just won’t leave her life. Judith swirls the goblet of wine in her hand, staring into its crimson depths. Him. She still isn’t sure what she wants from him, if she wants him to disappear into the Void and never be seen again, or if she wants to join him there. She takes a swig and winces.
At least she isn’t leading the troupes this time. No, that is left to Rook and their party, to this Veilguard. She will simply offer what assistance she can to them, just as Morrigan has asked her to, and then she will head back home and deal with her own fires. A dry laugh bursts past her lips. Morrigan. To think, she had once hated the woman. Now she considers her one of her closest friends. Judith is still not used to it. Yet another oddity in the drama that is her life.
A rap sounds on the door. Judith’s head snaps around. No one’s supposed to know she’s here. She holds her breath, waits for them to go away. Another rap, then a soft voice calls out. “Cousin? I know you’re in there.”
Judith sighs in relief, her feet racing as fast as her heart as she goes and opens the door. “Reif? How in the-”
“Morrigan.”
She tries to reply, but the words catch on the lump in her throat. Before she can stop it, Judith feels her lip, her hands, her knees trembling. She throws her arms around Reif and embraces her, clings to her like a rock amidst whitewaters. The scents of home flood her senses and Judith instinctually buries her head in Reif’s neck, her hair, inhaling the comfort that she brings with her. Tanned leather. Wet grass. Firewood.
When they finally break for air, Reif places a hand on either side of Judith’s face so she can get a good look at her. She cocks her head and appraises her, wipes her tears away with her thumb then kisses the wet spot on Judith’s cheek. She looks at her sadly. “Oh Judy. When did you last sleep?”
Judith simply shrugs.
