The Album : Vancouver

This album, Vancouver was recorded in Vancouver, BC after I was selected as 1 of 21 international artists to receive a grant to record there. This album is a blend of soul, roots, and folk combining horns, strings, and various other sounds. This album is about the journey to finding one's purpose, being willing to shake the status quo, and uncovering what matters and what is important to you. I wrote this song while I had pneumonia, with most days I was unable to sing my melodies. I met weekly with a songwriting circle as these songs felt like they wanted to be birthed in community. Other members would sing the melodies in most songwriting practices as I didn't have enough air to sustain a full practice.

The way these songs were created also matched the message and meaning behind them. To trust in God, a higher power, a friend to support you.

To know you are always divinely guided, and through other people, we recognize our own power and mission often when we can't quite see it ourselves.

The New Album Vancouver by Jules Schroeder is a Journey in Finding Your Purpose

The album, Vancouver, was recorded in Vancouver, BC, after I was selected as 1 of 21 international artists to receive a grant to record there.

A blend of soul, roots, and folk combining horns, strings, and various other sounds, Vancouver features over 22 different artists, including members of Elephant Revival, Nickelback, Mother Mother, Dallas Smith, and The Marcus Mosely Choir.

This album is about the journey to finding one's purpose and being willing to shake the status quo to uncover what matters and what is important to you.

When I wrote Vancouver, I was learning to listen more to myself and surrender to the restless soul in me. I challenged myself to take a step back from living life in the ways I thought it should be, to let what was meant for me become more clear.

Vancouver was the path to fulfilling a dream, to showing up to create in the face of adversity, with pneumonia, in another country to rally people together to support the greater whole. It is also about remembering we are never alone. We are constantly being shown the path, and creating a relationship with a higher source can allow connection and clarity.

I am now starting to play out live again, and it feels terrific. I am most curious to see if the songs have the same impact on others that they had on me and the songwriting circle they birthed from.

This song is about duality, about the intersection between trust and uncertainty. Letting yourself be humbled while also holding yourself in dignity. It is about welcoming our love and our pain in both parts of ourselves, the dark and our light. Knowing that grace is available to you in every moment and that you must always keep the faith. Allow yourself to fall and trust it is all happening at precisely the perfect time.

My music is a vehicle to awaken others to their soul's purpose. It is a vehicle for healing. You allow the listener to embrace all of themselves and be brave to face the parts of themselves that they fear. Facing your fear is how you break free from fear, especially today. It would help if you chose to live free from what-ifs, from being a victim to circumstances outside of your control so you can surrender to what is and meet in the present in every moment.

Jules Schroeders New Single Judgement Day is an Anthem for Freedom

The song became an anthem for freedom. Calling for us to reflect on what matters and important to us, to use our voice, and actively create the life we want.

This song was written after transcribing a 5-minute voice memo that I recorded in one-take after pausing a conversation with a friend in my room and putting my hands on the piano and allowing the words to speak through one evening.

I feel like more than ever right now we must speak out and take a stand for the life we want. Everything is always a choice and when there is so much uncertainty going on in your external environment it is time to double down on owning your own internal landscape.

“I know for myself it has been quite a year full of challenge, opportunity, and releasing expectations. “

Staying present to what is, and what is right now. I know together we will rise and we will get through.

Even though many of us our limited in our external freedoms with lockdowns and restrictions in the world it encourages us to double down on our own personal freedom. To triumph in uncertainty and to claim and take a stand for the life you want in the face of adversity. It also allows you to look at what is important to you and what really matters to you and to let go of that what doesn't serve. It is a song that is very timely for the world right now.

For me, music is about transformation. It is about healing, about awakening a person to parts of themselves that they have been unable to feel or have forgotten. It is about a deep remembering. 

Inspired from a near-death experience I had in 2015, a wakeboarding accident, I had where I had an out of body experience and saw a white figure and six black shadow council figure approach me telling me that I had more work to do in the world, would I really know how much my life was about to change.

The doctors thought my neck may have been broken and that I may have been paralyzed and I just remember saying in my out of body experience that I didn’t want to come back as a vegetable. I remember being then zapped back in my body and feeling energy forge my neck back together and shoot down my spine. When I woke up back in my body everything felt different. It was like I came back running on a 1000-volt battery rather than a 10 volt I had been running on.

Over the coming months, I literally had to learn how to integrate this new energy or “battery” into my physical body. It was definitely a huge awakening. I no longer felt afraid of death and felt like I was brought back with an accelerated purpose. I started to see success as coming through me rather than driven by me. I started listening, slowing down, becoming more patient, and ultimately more present. It has completely shifted how I see the world and what I have been called to create.
