Julian Berkeley and others have been ushered away to a more secure location, because there were certain people who needed to be protected at all costs, because the maniac who’d shot the president was still on the loose. The last thing that needed to happen was for the vice president to be hurt. The... well, potential president.
He’s stone-faced as he approached Julian, trying to maintain composure in this chaotic event. “Sir, I’ll be upping your security detail with some of my own men, given the situation and the president’s condition.” He needed to be protected because he was next in the line of succession. “They will be with you at all times for your protection. Until the perpetrator is caught, there’s no knowing if they might make an attempt against your life.” He doesn’t know why he thought about this trivial fact in this moment: that no Vice President had ever been assassinated. As if that was some sort of comfort that the situation was unlikely to get worse than it was. But he’s here because he wanted Julian to know that he cared greatly about his safety.
