Subaru and Juliet enter society; both beautiful and dangerous

Okay so we all know that Subaru is at least a little into Julius (nobody who’s completely uninterested would make THAT many comments about a person’s charm and handsomeness and vexing voice and supple hips —), and we’re all aware that he’s so deep in denial about this that he’s made it his life’s goal to pick a fight with him as often as humanly possible — but my question is, how aware of this is Julius?

I think he’s at least a little aware, right? Subaru is so not subtle about it at all, to the point where everyone else teases him about how it’s obvious that he and Julius are actually pretty good friends, dumbass. And like, this is the Knight of Knights, so he probably has a bit of experience with being on the receiving end of unrequited crushes. Not to mention how pulling pigtails is such typical little-boy-with-a-crush behavior. I don’t think he has any romantic interest in Subaru whatsoever — but especially in Arc 5, it just comes off like him trying his best to toe that line between being kind about this kid’s obvious crush on him without accidentally leading him on, while also (interestingly enough) using it as a way to motivate Subaru to be the best version of himself. And honestly some choice words from other characters — like Anastasia making a comment about Julius being infatuated with Subaru — just come off as them teasing either Subaru or Julius about the whole thing.
