Brief notes on Belgravia I

My undying love for Downton Abbey has taken me to read its creator’s new novel, Belgravia. Scandal, London, and social classes are at the core of this story set a the beginning of the Victorian Era (as you can see, it has all my favourites).It is a nice reading, easy and amusing. However, I would like it better if Mr Fellowes would have deepened on the issue of social classes. There is a continous subtext of admiration for the aristocracy that was more hidden in Downton. Nevertheless, I would love to see a tv adaptation just for the sceneries and customs.

What’s Jullian Fellowes, the creator of the wildly successful Downton Abbey to do now that Downton has run its course?  Why develop a 19th century novel about romance amongst the classes in old England of course! 

Like just about everything Fellowes writes Doctor Thorne is about the various goings on among the very rich and titled and their dealings with the lesser classes.  It is beautifully shot with gorgeous sets and numerous magnificent English houses for exteriors.  The acting is wonderful and the story is filled with humor, sadness and lots of grand gestures towards the grandness of the human spirit.  Its very Downton Abbey-esque in nearly all its ways.  But at only four episodes in length it never runs out of ideas like Downton did in its later seasons.

Its a grand little show and it made me quite happy.
