July Miles
That's 2 months in a row of over 300 miles, meaning we're right in the middle of goal focused training again...my favourite place! 💆🏼♂️ While I was happy with my base phase, it wasn't as many miles as July last year. After chatting to a few local runners wiser than me, I started to accept that you can't run as much in the humidity. The last 2 summers on the west coast were still tough but a lot easier to build mileage without risking a muscle tear.
So I've reduced my weekly mileage by about 10-20 miles than originally planned, and hoping that this poor mans altitude of heat/humidity makes up for the lost miles, and allows me to PR strongly in the fall!
In the fall I'll be aiming for PR's in the half & full marathons on the road, and possibly a debut 50k on the trails.
June Miles
A PR race and a record for distance run in a month. 😊
Races
Summerfast 10k in 36:49 mins. PR!
Injuries
Getting over an Achilles injury from the May marathon. Getting better every week and pain has been 1-2% for most days in July. Better than the 10-20% pain I felt in May!
I'm learning that the Achilles just stubbornly takes a really long time to get down to 0%.
Sickness
None.
Thoughts
So, whoa. Have you ever had one of those months of training where it feels like a regular month, but then you look at the data and it turns out it’s the most you’ve ever ran? That month for me was July 2016.
I haven’t always been healthy enough to break records this year. January started off with a calf strain, and after getting over that I couldn’t find a sweet spot in niggle-free consistency until right at the end of the spring!
Now the summer is working for me - so if you’re going through a rough patch, just hold on, hunt for answers, do the extra work, and most importantly have faith 👐🏽☀️
SWAN BOAT ON THE RIVER
On the Han River are a slew of swan boats - paddle boats. I wrote this song late one night after returning from a date on the river. I'll try to find a picture to reblog. Message me if you'd like an mp3 copy.
