I had to wait until after practice was done today to get my run done. Life of a coach. By then it was 29° and dropping. But the work has to get done. And it did, 5.3 miles of it. It looks like we are locked in for a continued long haul on this cold snap, not something we are used to in Virginia. More miles are planned this weekend. Here we go.

Another week of rainy running, loving this June weather so far

Two misty/rainy runs in two days, separated by kitty snuggles - hell yeah!

I downloaded Hal Higdon’s novice base training plan to build some consistency and yesterday was 1.5 miles and today was 3. I walked a bit today - I could have pressed on and run the whole thing but I was trying to take it easy and be kind to my legs since I’ll be asking them to carry me another 1.5 miles tomorrow and I don’t want to hit it too hard to quick. 10:17 pace yesterday, 11:48 today with the walk breaks. Room to grow.

Base Training Day 28/56 - Whew! That run was hard! I took a new route which meant I ran uphill for my last interval. Never again. Then I went with my Mother to a show at another local garden. What is it with us and gardens? Anyway all in all a good day. Looking forward to getting back to weightlifting this week! Today’s Goals: 10,000 steps ✅

Back to running today after a rest day. My legs were still fatigued from Sunday’s long run and I just felt very flat - no zip in the legs at all. On the bright side, I was able to run outdoors for the first time in 10 days. 35° almost felt spring-like after the cold, snow, and ice we’ve had since that last sojourn. 4.3 miles and a win for consistency today.

It’s been a minute since my last run post. I’m on the Oregon coast for the holiday, where my sister-in-law lives, and it’s a nice locale for sure. But it took a lot to get here, between finishing off work for the year, coaching at a meet the night before we had to travel, then getting into Portland at 3AM PT. I was a zombie Sunday and I still had to work two days from here yesterday and today. No wonder I started feeling sick Sunday night. All that stress took a toll. Thankfully I feel like I am on the mend now, after hydrating like crazy and including copious amounts of Emergen-C in my water.

I felt good enough today to head out for this run, but I kept it short, both to keep my health from heading back in the wrong direction and to not get caught out on the beach trail in the dark. 4 miles was about right today, but the 75 switchback steps I had to jog to get up the cliff where our house is took whatever I had left in me. I should sleep well tonight.

It is the time of year when I can finally pull out the holiday running shirts. It was a cold, damp, sometimes drizzly day to close out November, which meant this shirt was hidden under a jacket. This also ended a “recovery” week where I still managed to run four times, including a turkey trot and a workout of straights and curves. I’ll get back into regular training mode starting tomorrow. Long term, I’m thinking Cherry Blossom Ten Miler will be the target, but lottery registration doesn’t even open until January 5. A 12-week training block for Cherry Blossom wouldn’t even start until probably around 1/20, so I’ll just do some base building for now. Lots of miles and hills.
