Training recap: May 11 - 17, 2020
About 10 hours of bike/run this week and three core sessions. I feel like 10 hours is a good level of training for me right now. It’s a sustainable volume and it allows me to get in some serious workouts and also have fun with my training.
Bike: 2 indoor sessions, both of which were challenging but felt very achievable. The Tuesday session was time just over threshold, with the intervals each a minute longer than last week. Afterward I did about 10 minutes of aerobic spinning. I find it brings my heart rate down but also makes me get suck it up when the “ugh that was hard, I’m ready to stop pedalling” attitude strikes. Thursday was over-unders. I contemplated upping the workout intensity but by the final interval I was glad I didn’t. The weekend ride was outdoors and was similar to a ride we did about a month ago. I felt much stronger on the hills this time around and in general it felt like a good ride. When we got home we got ourselves some fish and chips and enjoyed the sunshine (and some rosé) on our deck.
Run: 4 times this week. An easy 20 on Tuesday to add some volume and 25 minutes at tempo on Wednesday were both solo. The tempo one felt tough. I was off pace for the first part and was worried that I’d been over ambitious but eventually things just clicked and I sped up through the interval. The Friday run and the long run were with Dan. On Friday I kept it all easy while Dan went segment hunting along our route. Today we were on the trails and it was a struggle in places (mentally, but also physically because the water I had taken along tasted AWFUL) but there were some awesome parts too.
Core: 2 days I just did 1 minute each of 15 different exercises, roughly categorised as 5 x banded stuff/plank stuff/balance stuff. My other session was an upper body strength video from youtube. It was hard! I didn’t meet my goal of doing 4 sessions this week but maybe I will next week.
