It’s for you // @stephanieawmartin (FULL TEXT BELOW.) Infused in irritation, consumed with confusion, my mind full of memories both fond and painful. Those moments you walked into darkness, a smile on your face, causing nostalgic laughter alongside ill-fated fear presaging this unknown; a foretelling of growing distance. I hate this burning wisdom, yet choose to sear it just the same. I am finally talking with my family again, slowly, which is to say we are both tentatively taking steps forward. Each side hurt, wounded, scared, unsure. This poem stems from a memory of my dad walking out onto a pier in Florida on NYE. My sister and Dad bravely walking into the night, my mom and I laughing and freaking out in turn. I feel so many parallels within the larger context of our life as a family. With good and bad.
