Lady Nyx

Her porcelain skin glows in the moonlight

She bathes in the stream of white,

Luminescent in her own right

Her raven locks drip with twilight,

Sapphire gems falling from each strand

When she rises from the pearly depths,

The shadows follow, entranced

Her gentle footsteps press into the lush grass,

Heavenly dew perched on each blade

Always looking forward, her gaze pierces the stars

And they too fall in love with the midnight goddess

Written for Falls Poetry Challenge on Instagram.. Day 15

Prompt: Sand Dune

Ode to Oppy

They sent you to a desert

In the unknown galaxy

To collect rock and stone

And make sense of what we don’t know

They asked you what you saw

And checked up on you

Every day, without fail,

To see how you were doing

They taught you to sing

And after a year alone,

They got a cake, lit candles

And hummed your melody with you

They called you Opportunity

Because they knew that

Even as the red sand rains down,

You’d do it for us

Gaia

Send me away, my love

With the wind

Let me scatter in the breeze

White fluff floating in the current

I’ll escape into the atmosphere

And spread my full being

Share all I am

To be what I could be

You stay steadfast, my love

On the ground

Hold on strong with a mighty root

Tendrils seeking nourishment

To grow and grow

Until you can give back

To give yourself to the world

And ask for nothing in return

Keep my home safe, my love

As I explore existence

As you broaden your horizon

When our ephemeral time is here,

I will return with the zephyr

And give you all I can

Prompt: Crashing Into Us

So This Is Fate

And so I find myself again

Living by the day to day

Passive in all that happens

Letting the wind decide my fate

I’ve been troubled in this life before

The bad is hard to separate from good

For a while, I thought this was it

That things were happening the way they should

But I’m a little wiser nowadays

Don’t know everything (then again, who does?)

I know that I have control

That there’s more to do than what I must

And so I push forward through the haze

And let the future crash into me

I’ll grit my teeth, I’ll hold my stance

I won’t succumb to eventuality

She kissed me sweetly

With the gentlest touch

When she smiled,

I couldn’t get enough

She held my hand

Like I was precious

And hugged me tight

Like I was treasure

She braided flowers into my hair

Pink primrose within dark strands

She showed me seashells she collected

When we spent days walking on the sand

She kissed me sweetly every night

With lips as sweet as plums

And every morning we’d wake up,

I knew she was the one

Lost Words

You told me you love me

You said you always will

I believed you

I took your words

And wrapped them up

And kept them in a pocket

Close to my heart

It kept me warm

On cold winter days

It kept me smiling

During the darker nights

It kept me alive

When everything else was killing my soul

Then one day, I looked

I reached in

And found nothing

There was a hole in the pocket the whole time
