Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle | Official Trailer
:: I’ll accept it as a reboot, not a remake or spinoff or spiritual sequel. It’s a great concept, that’s already been the premise of other great stories like .hack so why couldn’t it work when you drop two amazing comedians and two two great action stars into the story!

Movie TrailHER: Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle At first I wasn’t here for the Jumanji remake, but this trailer changed my mind. If you grew up in the 90s, you’d remember the movie Jumanji starring Robin Williams. It was a movie about a magical board game that unleashed a world of adventure for a couple of siblings. Well, of course with the remake, they had to modernize it a little so these present…

Okay so I just saw the full trailer for the new Jumanji movie. And like... I'm disappointed. I was kinda looking forward to a new tech version of the game. I was curious how they were going to explain the transference to a video game. I quite enjoy the Rock and Karen Gillan. But gods.... I'm not going to touch the potential for racism (though I see it) because that's not my place, and I will definitely fuck up an explanation for that. The misogyny, fatphobia, homophobia, and transphobia is enough to turn me off. So first, we have two girls and two boys. Yay! Equality! One girl is clearly the "super smart dork" and the other the "preppy pretty one" but gods, I'm so used to that it's not even funny, so whatever. Shove your godawful sexist stereotypes into the movie. Fine. The trailer manages to pass the Bechdel Test, but only by using the sexist stereotype of "girls care more about their looks". Great. Then they get dumped into Jumanji land. Smart Girl is now dressed in the epitome of Sexy Jungle Fighter Girl, and is clearly uncomfortable with this, but does anyone offer her a shirt? Nope. As someone else has pointed out, the men all have layers, they have a supply pack, there are bugs and dangers galore, and yet she has to be in booty shorts and a tank top, EVEN THOUGH THIS MAKES HER VISIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE. Perfect. Black dude is now the pack mule. Nuff said. Preppy girl is now an overweight older man. We are clearly supposed to be laughing. I'm sure she'll end up learning some lesson about how looks aren't everything, blah blah blah. So now we've effectively taken a female character and made her a dude, so we're back up to One Girl In A Group Of Guys. Wonderful. Her sexual preferences (she likes dudes) are now played as jokes, because LOL FAT DUDE LIKES THE ROCK. She's upset that she's fat now (and I'm already sure there will be more fat jokes). And they're clearly playing the gender transformation as a horrifying thing, which makes me, as a transdude, incredibly uncomfortable. Like. I don't understand. The original movie was a fun horror/adventure movie with a lot of silliness. It had its problems, and was in no way perfect, but... This new one is just a mess if the trailer is to be believed, and I just... nope.
