“I love anna shcherbakova a lot... but man, her toe jumps! What I’m referring to is how she bends her knee and kicks into the ice really hard, and then lands really hard again—you can actually hear the loud smack noise of her kicking and then the loud smack noise of her landing. Otherwise, she’s pretty incredible.”

“I know it’s a difficult entry, but I feel like Alena’s triple axel entry would be more impressive if she didn’t always do the exact same one. It looks less like a transition that goes with the music and flows into the jump, and more like that’s just how she prepares for the jump.”

“Honestly aside from the 3A (for its difficulty), none of Rika’s other jumps look special to me. I’m not saying she shouldn’t get high GOE’s for correct technique and her entry/exit, but they just don’t have the wow factor, I don’t know why. The other Japanese ladies are less consistent, but I am more impressed with Wakaba’s 2A and 3Lz, and Kaori’s 2A, 3F3T and 3Lo. Visually they just have that ‘wow’ impact that Rika’s jumps don’t. Rika’s jumps are more similar to the Russians in this matter tbh.”

“Didn't notice it until now, but Alina has the same forward bend issue that I used to have when jumping -- where I bend forward at the hip and my back goes really low when entering a jump, so that I can use my back to hoist me up into the air and rotate, instead of relying on my leg to do so. Managed to quit the habit a while ago, but am quite surprised to see Alina do it too. It's really bad technique that ended in me spraining my back terribly.”

“Daniil Samsonov scares me every time he jumps. It's something with his technique, the way he lands, and not knowing what's going to happen. Is he going to pop, fall, stepout, land it, but skid and hold his leg out forever, or land it perfectly?”
