Welcome to Halloween 2: I'm Caught Up Now! I love this community and I loved this week in audio drama. Happy Audio Drama Sunday!
🕰️ Okay so now that I've listened to all of Nine to Midnight, I am once again blown away by the amount of talent in this collaborative project. I found Tal Minear's work on “Welcome Back” particularly spooky, "Abject" really chilled me, and “Camp Hero” had an excellent premise for a humorous horror with some very good dialogue. (It's always fun to listen to Jamie Petronis and Athan do stuff together--I'm really looking forward to their upcoming show [REDACTED].)
🐓 I absolutely adore @ameliapodcast; it is effortlessly funny and so well done, and because of that effortlessness, when it decides to be heartfelt and dramatic, it really hits. This episode really hit. I think the Kozlowski-Interviewer dynamic is so perfect because, as this episode illustrates, it just clicks. And then because of a mistake (silly) involving knocking a henge down like dominoes (silly), they're gonna put Arthur in a wickerman (kinda silly?) and kill him (uh oh) and Kozlowski has to save his life, nearly at the expense of his own. Talk about stakes. Arthur's just one druid amongst many, but this immortal alchemist chooses him because they are friends. It's beautiful. Also, always fun to hear Alan Burgon doing his own accent.
🐚 I found this episode of @monstrousproductions' Travelling Light terribly convicting. The traveller has realized exactly how judgemental they are and, as a bonus, how they nurse penitence like it's a cool drink. I found it very relatable. And I loved the story of crusted-over regret that went with it; both on-theme and a lonesome kind of beautiful.
⛽️ God bless @desertskiespodcast. Genuinely one of the funniest shows out there, on top of being a kindhearted and vulnerable story about what love and friendship really mean. I loved this episode in particular, not just as an exploration of the purpose of identity, but also as a very loving little portrayal of D&D. Also the jokes make me laugh every time.
🎭 Listen, I don't need every episode of @storiesfromylelmore to remind me how much like Keryth I am, okay? But for real, this episode really hit home for me as someone who is Just Not That Good At Acting but loves the concept of theater. I like the way in which this theater was haunted in a technical sense, rather than a literal one, and I laughed so many times at the upcharging popcorn and comments about the script. What a perfect episode.
🎙️ The thing about @jumpleadsscifi is that it is structured like a traditional sitcom in ways that podcasts rarely capture, as well as being an absolutely ridiculous scifi adventure, AND like any good sitcom, it knows when things should get serious. This episode involved meeting the worst version of your partner in an alternate universe (and by worst version I mean like, Tucker Carlson with more murder), and then it uses the lack of trust and moral dissonance between Meany and Llewellyn that is so often played for laughs as a conflict point. I am so interested to see where this goes. TELL ME EVERYTHING, JUMP LEADS.
