Made the decision to scrap one of the scripts and write an entirely new one from scratch. It's about going to the toilet. #JumpLeads #writing #audioplay https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ2hHEHjjxp/?utm_medium=tumblr

Alrighty, let's do this. • I have been planning to do Jump Leads audios for a decade now, and I've spent most of that time being too scared. Too scared to try, to afraid to fail. It doesn't help that the last time we tried to do this, back in 2015, it was during my breakdown. • Well, I'm not going to let fear stop me. We have two episodes recorded with four left to do. I have rewrites to do for two of those. I'm going to make this happen. Current goal is to have the series ready to go by Christmas. I think that's achievable. Wish me luck. • #JumpLeads #radioplay #audioplay #Comedy #scifi #sciencefiction https://www.instagram.com/p/CQUEX5DjdSm/?utm_medium=tumblr

Just completed what is (hopefully!) the last round of polish for #JumpLeads episodes 1+2, which we record this Sunday. • I've spent so much time looking at a screen, I decided to change things up a bit and print the scripts out so I can jot notes down. That was immeasurably helpful, but not as helpful as @mandyquesadilla's notes! • Really happy with the shape of these scripts. If you're a longterm fan of the old webcomic, I think you'll enjoy these. If you're coming in fresh and enjoy scifi-comedy, I think you'll enjoy these too. I hope! https://www.instagram.com/p/CAw1yljDMhA/?igshid=1b79vw7fukwg6

Feels so good to have all six scripts ready on time for the table read. • I won't lie, I was terrified I wouldn't have episode 6 done in time. But it just sort of poured out of me this week. Everything fell into place exactly as it needed to - I wrote about a quarter of the script a night for four nights. I'm amazed it happened so cleanly. • The tableread looming terrified me. It did. I won't lie. Knowing we needed six scripts ready to go was scary, but it also lit a fire under me. I work best when I have clear deadlines, I suppose. • So, yes. Six scripts. Four incredibly talented and versatile voice actors. One night. Blimey. We might actually MAKE it this time. • #JumpLeads #audioplay #radioplay #radiocomedy #scificomedy #comedyscifi #scifi #sciencefiction #Comedy #audio #writing https://www.instagram.com/p/B9IxWalDdnC/?igshid=ey5xzi0apz3r
Speaking of scripts, just finished a new draft of this. If you remember the pilot from 2015, it's still mostly the same, structurally. But the ending is different, I've added more dialog and jokes, and I've hopefully filled it out to a full half-hour. We shall see! #jumpleads https://www.instagram.com/p/B5mZDpjDiKg/?igshid=1i1n8smc1hkdc
I'm going through and re-lettering the entire gosh darn comic for a rerun in 2020, which also includes re-formatting the cover art a little (and also renaming one of the issues, because I felt like it). It's been a long time since I sat and read #JumpLeads, but this story and these characters were such a big part of my life and my journey from the UK to the US. They went from a never-produced BBC series to a comic that ran for five years that I am still - still! - immensely proud of. I've talked a lot about bringing these characters back, and it's still on the cards. Things I'd forgotten: - The second issue was rewritten from scratch in early 2007, which is good because the original script bore a stunning resemblance to the #DoctorWho episode "42" which aired later that year (dodged a bullet there!). - I went to painful efforts to name every character after a writer, actor or director known for working in the scifi genre to the point that I looked up names I might like and consequently don't remember them all. - I named a character in what ended up being our last issue after @krisstraub. He was supposed to be a recurring character across the next four issues, but they never got made. - There's an unproduced script by Andrew Taylor that delightfully skewers Sliders. Might see how he'd feel about adapting that one as an audio... https://www.instagram.com/p/B483bnJjgTH/?igshid=1v0beyp442qkv
