JUNE BOOK OF THE MONTH: Dark Rise by C.S. Pacat

AVERAGE STAR RATING: 4.8

ONE WORD REVIEWS:

Wicked. Unexpected. Inevitable. Electrifying. Clever. WHAT. Devastating.

WHY?

It was so well written. Every hint about the mystery at work was woven into the prose in a way that allowed the reader to figure out what was happening as the story went on. It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a book as much as I enjoyed this one. (...) I loved the ominous feeling of dread that was looming over the characters and the way we see our protagonist trying to stop something that was set in motion centuries ago only to fall in hands of his destiny that he didn't want *chef kisses* And do I need to talk about the characters? the writing? the tension? James? Pacat is back. Great worldbuilding, fantastic characters, an insane twist ending, and a promising couple in the works Setting, characters, character growth, plot twists I love the layered writing. The way the entire book changes and you look at every interaction with new eyes after crucial things are revealed. I really enjoyed the characters and their relationships. Also the plot twist. The only reason it’s not 5 is that it’s a little bit slow for my tastes

FAVORITE PART OF READING WITH THE LIBRARY

Discussing what might come next since the sequel isn't out yet Seeing reactions to the twist I had read this book back on November and I loved watching everyone freaking out over it like I did Everyone being a simp for James from the word GO The reaction to the twist ending, and then going back to see what we missed during the first read Seeing everyone's reaction to the twist as well as the parts leading up to it that had me passing and going "... um what" - I love getting to see other people have emotional responses like I did. Seeing everyone’s reactions!
