🌟✨ What a powerful day in Roxbury! ✨🌟 We showed up, created, reflected, and celebrated at the 15th Annual Juneteenth Emancipation Observance Celebration 🎉✊🏿

Thank you to everyone who joined sparc! the ArtMobile at the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists🎨 Together, we: 🖌️ Collaboratively painted powerful images of freedom 📚 Crafted personal Juneteenth zines and decorated freedom quilt coloring sheets 💬 Shared stories, joy, and creativity across generations

From the flag-raising to the parade, and into an afternoon of music, art, and reflection—this was a day of Black joy, resilience, and imagination. 💥

🖤 Let’s keep honoring the legacy of Juneteenth through art and action all year long.

14th Annual Juneteenth Emancipation Observance

Join sparc! at the 2024 Juneteenth Emancipation Observance at the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists this Wednesday, June 19th!! 

sparc! the ArtMobile will host an on-site art studio where you can design your own Juneteenth themed buttons and journals.  

Juneteenth is the oldest known observance commemorating the end of slavery in the United States dating back to 1865. 2024 marks Juneteenth’s 4th year as an official MA state holiday. As our country continues to reckon with the history of slavery and the many ways racial injustice continues today, Juneteenth is a day to celebrate, honor our ancestors, and reflect on what freedom and belonging mean to us.  

This celebration is hosted annually on June 19th by the Boston Juneteenth Committee and the Museum of the National Center of Afro American Artists (NCAAA) and includes a parade, music, community vendors, refreshments, award presentations, and Keynote Speaker Michael Curry.

SCHEDULE:

12:30 PM      Flag-Raising @ Dillaway-Thomas House (183 Roxbury Street)

2:00 PM       Parade to the Museum of NCAAA (Starting at Roxbury Heritage Site State Park - 183 Roxbury Street)

2:15 PM        Museum Grounds Open  (300 Walnut Ave, Roxbury)

4:00 PM      Boston Juneteenth Emancipation Observance Program begins (The Museum of the NCAAA - 300 Walnut Ave)

13th Annual Juneteenth Emancipation Observance 2023

Join sparc! at the 2023 Juneteenth Emancipation Observance at the Museum of the National Center of Afro American Artists - Monday, June 19th!! 

This important, historical, celebration is hosted annually on June 19th by the Boston Juneteenth Committee and the Museum of the National Center of Afro American Artists. The event includes a parade, music, community vendors, refreshments, award presentations, - this year’s Keynote Speaker is Tania Fernandez Anderson, City Councilor, District 7. There is fun for all ages!

sparc! the ArtMobile will host an on-site art studio where you can design your own Juneteenth Journal, decorate quilt squares, embellish a print of the Emancipation Proclamation, and other projects.
