What's funny is that folks thought we were playing games. With the recent reveal that King Grayskull, the source of the Power for He-Man, is a Black man with locs.... the void of representation of Black Heroes within super accessible properties is filling a bit. This isn't a trend or an agenda. This is what it looks like when IPs reflect its fandom...not just one sect of it. . . @fitnessbysutton has been my right hand in my endeavor to get @Mattel and @fisherprice to alter their toy lines to reflect all children as opposed to just one demographic of kids. My thinking is if you inundate kids with imagery of all shades of color, those who grow up to be Police or Judges will be a bit slower on pulling that trigger or putting a knee on someone's neck. We're getting there but I feel like Ricard and myself have applied pressure via our cosplay, @afropunk panel, #JuneteenthEvent and continued actions to raise awareness of what's necessary for effective changed behavior. . . @oliverbanksart of #ArtMonkeyAnimation has joined the fight by partnering with us to bring PSAs that will be accessible for ALL children but specifically the Black youth who sorely need the imagery of Heroes they can stand behind and with. They've been holding us down by validating our existence in the face of those who say we don't matter... its time we return the favor. Our Kickstarter for these PSAs begins August 1....$1,000 per 30 seconds of animation. Our goal is to get at least 1 out and if we get more, we'll make more. . .
