Do you think Jung being manipulative come from his father? Considering his father manipulate and sweet talk other kids to do his favor/to gain their trust or that is his self dense mechanism?
Probably? Is being 'manipulative' genetic?
His big brain is probably from his father. And whether manipulative traits are genetical or not, Jung must've seen how his father talk to people and, just like every other child in the world, Jung picked that habit up from his father.
What are your thoughts/headcanons if Jung become a dad?
I'm not very good at making spontaneous headcanon. But I want to share my thought how well he'd be at being a father more than Mr Yoo will ever gonna be:
I honestly think he'd be a good father. He'd probably have doubts about himself like would he turn out act like his father towards his kids? Would he control his kids just like his father? Etc. But everything we've seen in the series prove other wise.
He knows that people shouldn't bottle up their feelings.
(sorry for the indo translation I barely screenshot the eng translation😭).
He knows how to make his loved one feel better.
He's still nice to her when they're not in good terms.
He wouldn't force Seol into doing something she doesn't want/can't do.
I know these are all what he does to his gf, not his (future) kids, but this also a proof that he knows how to treat other people decently unlike his father. Treating your significant other and your kids will be absolutely very different but he's shown that he's capable of not doing what his father did.
He adores Seol, he even seems to care for Seol's brother, of course he would be a good father. (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
P.S: Jung doesn't like it but he will make his kids meet his father from time to time just for obligatory purpose. He'll make sure to always keep an eye on the kids though so they won't get manipulated HAHAHAHA.
Marupok ate niyo.
Rough Cheese in the trap flashback year timeline
I will edit and add to this timeline, so you have been warned.:) Also most of it is just my thoughts and opinions but I try to give facts from the webtoon as reasons why I think what I think. It may have spoilers so if you have not finished or are close to finishing the webtoon, you have been warned.
Feel free to add your thoughts, point out events I missed and just generally discuss the order of the events. Some are paralel in my opinion - like Seols troubles with Juyeon.
It all started at a school party. It was referred to as a Greeting party for freshmen (Source: https://sites.google.com/site/cheesetrapenglish/ads/2014)
1.Comebackdrinkparty/freshmangreetingparty [Season 1] Ep. 2 That Guy (1) – [Season 1] Ep. 4 That Guy (3); [Season 2] Ep. 7
They don’t get a good impression of each other. Seol sees Jung as fake (spilling drink on purpose) and Jung sees her as someone who saw through his mask - and disliked what she saw and also stared at him, making him feel like he’s weird and that freaks him out more than anything. I guess this also prompted him to put her in the leech box, along with her fake smiles. Her being presented to him by Sangchul of all people and drinking out of a leaf wasn’t helpful, either. Quite a pile.
2.Seol keeps greeting him [Season 1] Ep. 5 - Change ([Season 4] Ep. 54 - Confrontation (1))
She kept smiling and looking for opportunities to great him but he ignored her and with time, she grew annoyed with it. She feels uncomfortable with him so she tries to avoid him. But he looks somewhat sad that she seems to be like the rest of the people in that last panel. Or is he just tired?
I think that greeting him with fake smiles after making it clear to him that she doesn’t like what she sees behind the mask, the real him makes Seol appear like Younggon to Jung - smiling face to face, but just for benefits, especially after the study group and the badmouthing before the paper kicking incident. The thing is, at least in my opinion, that Seol didn’t realize what she was doing, she didn’t do it consciously so it doesn’t make sense to her. In a Season 3 black and white bonus chapter it is shown that something like this happened to Seol in high school, and Mona pointed out to her that she’s making her bad opinion obvious.
3.English study group aka snickering incident [Season 1] Ep. 7 - Water Snake (1) -- [Season 1] Ep. 9 - Water Snake (3), [Season 2] Ep. 7 - The Underclassmen - [Season 2] Ep. 8 - Consciousness (1)
The next major incident happens at the English study group, strengthening their bad impressions that slowly becomes hate. She giggles at her imagination but isn’t she somewhat laughing at him, since she actually pictures Jung in her head and laughs at it? I’m not sure. Jung is alarmed and gives her when she tripped a creepy warning.
4.Seol tripping with papers – be careful [Season 1] Ep. 14 - Canine
It was a bit careless of Seol to talk like that about him– that he is uncomfortable and chooses who to hang out with, a bit fake – and that within the earshot of Sangchul. She realized that right away that she should have kept it for herself because it’s yeah, like badmouthing Jung in public. I’m sure Seol didn’t mean harm with what she said but it came back to Jung, who was already having a bad, very tiring day, and through Sangchul, So it had a much worse effect than it would have otherwise. Another creepy warning from Jung and he topped it with kicking those papers as he really disliked her at that point. And poor Seol felt humiliated.
Basketball game, Seol comforting Younggon and Jung sending him after her [Season 1] Ep. 16 - A Mistake (1) -- [Season 1] Ep. 17 - A Mistake (2)
It’s not that much the basketball game that influenced the Jung-Seol relationship but Seol comforting Younggon. But he somewhat kept an eye on her, he knew by her reaction that as Seol put it it was as if Younggon scratched her itch with yelling in front of everybody how Jung is just fake – similar to what came from Seol and on top of that he saw her comforting Younggon. So he just agrees when asked if they would make a cute couple and sends that message and lets Inha send more that start the Younggon stalking incident. I don’t think he knew how far Younggon would go, yes he was known as a creep but people didn’t notice how much of a creep he was. And Jung had the same bad opinion of both of them so he didn’t care if Younggon bothered Seol. (And he pays the price for being a jerk in season 3)
Younggon stalking Seol past year summer break between first and second semester of Seol’s second year at uni [Season 1] Ep. 21 - Gaze (1) -- [Season 1] Ep. 23 - Gaze (3); [Season 3] Ep. 17 – Threat (3); [Season 3] Ep. 38 – Others’ interest (1) (Inha’s part)
One of the biggest obstacles Seol and Jung overcome and manage to clear up in Season 3 - Confrontation chapters. It also caused the longest and most severe break in their relationship. Those who do not like them together often name this incident as the reason, they are not able to forgive that this happened to Seol with Jung having a hand in it.
Seol confronts Jung because of Younggon [Season 1] Ep. 26 - Relationship with Others (2)
Jung is nice to Seol to make Juyeon jealous,– smile, help offer (assignment, Younggon issue) [Season 1] Ep. 12 - A Fly (2) [Season 1] Ep. 14 - Canine; [Season 1] Ep. 26 - Relationship with Others (2)
This part is actually paralel and in between the other parts, the diarrhea pill and the homeless woman incidents are results of this.
Juyeon puts diarrhea pill in Seol’s coffe and Seol confronts her [Season 1] Ep. 31 - Hostility (1) – [Season 1] Ep. 32 - Hostility (2), [Season 3] Ep. 9 - Transformation
Groupproject with Seol and Jung in the same group [Season 2] Ep. 51 - Isolation (3) – [Season 2] Ep. 52 - Isolation (4)
Jung overhears Seols phonecall with her mom and sees her cry without tears [Season 2] Ep. 40 - Bitterness (3)
Juyeon sends the homeless woman after Seol [Season 1] Ep. 31 - Hostility (1) -- [Season 1] Ep. 33 - Hostility (3); [Season 2] Ep. 24 - Behind the Scenes (2) – [Season 2] Ep. 26 - Behind the Scenes (4)
Seol’s idea for the festival refused [Season 2] Ep. 52 - Isolation (4)
Kyunghwan keeps telling they are the same [Season 3] Prologue
[Season 3] Ep. 31 – Fantasy (6) Seol presenting
A small snippet showing that Jung at realizes and acknowledges Seol’s skills in presenting and school stuff.
Dohyun tries to take advantage of Seol [Season 3] Ep. 63 - Direction of the relationship (7) – [Season 3] Ep. 65 - Direction of the relationship (9)
A very smart sign is hidden in there that Jung is already interested in Seol, he says “I don’t feel good“, the same sentence (both in the original and in the English translation) he said during the scene that triggered this flashback, there it was Inho who made him say this, in the flashback, it’s this Dohyun guy. He has a problem with both guys, but in the flashback, he doesn’t know, doesn’t realize the reasons and thinks of both Seol and Dohyun as cockroaches. It clearly shows that he had an unconscious interest in Seol way before he started to get what’s going on, and what Seol is really like. And petty as he is, he brushes past her with ‘accidentally’ brushing her when walking past her and scaring her. Is he jealous? It’s too early for that in my opinion. But something is triggering him, that’s for sure.
Festival preparations part 1 [Season 3] Ep. 99 - The link (1) – [Season 3] Ep. 104 - The link (6)
Festival preparations part 2, Seol being sick, connects to present [Season 4] Ep. 27 - Conviction (2) – [Season 4] Ep. 33 - Behind The Scene (3)
Just a clumsy sketch because I wanted to draw them happy.
