#31 ACCEPT AN INVITATION TO GUEST IN A MUSIC TALK SHOW
The invitation came in via a private message over Facebook. Apparently someone from ZOE TV, an affiliate of GMA Network, had come to know of my music and felt I’d make a worthy guest for the station’s show, THIS IS MY STORY, THIS IS MY SONG (T.I.M.S.).
I was naturally surprised, but immensely flattered. T.I.M.S., hosted by multi-awarded songwriter and a personal idol, Jungee Marcelo, had a strong following among local music enthusiasts; that I would even be considered was an honor, especially since my work has been under the music radar for so long.
Thankfully, Jungee is such an affable and humble man (despite his stature in the industry), and our conversation on set became a relaxed reminiscing of sorts. He made me recount my personal musical journey, allowing me to enumerate my many influences and to narrate the experiences that have led me to pursue writing inspirational music.
Jungee himself is known for his deeply-inspired and Christ-centric songs. So the daunting part of the interview was having to play my own work before him. Apparently, the producers had intentionally left me clueless about this section of the show to keep our conversation spontaneous and real.
I was then asked to showcase one of my songs (I was briefed on this), and so on hand to sing ANG PUPUNO SA AKIN were dear friends Carlo Santos and Michelle Ching.
The T.I.M.S. episode also featured the young and uber talented K.A. Antonio, who also related her story and showcased her music. The final section of the episode (and a totally frightening one because, once again, we were not briefed on this) was a challenge to collaborate on a song written with words randomly pulled out from a book. We survived. Praise God.
A splendid experience, this was. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks, Jungee, and the producers of T.I.M.S. And here’s a link to that episode:
