Prompt No.4
Prompt No.4 - Childhood Fears and the Urban Myth
Everyone grows up with urban myths in their lives, even some adults remain convinced that creatures as varied as Mothman to Santa Claus still exist and function some way in society, either positively or antagonistically. Children are often coerced into good behavior through the implementation of the urban myth. Whether it’s to stay in bed to avoid a run-in with the Boogeyman in the closet, or to be a good child so they are rewarded come Holiday Season, in this way the mythology is almost always tied to fear. Fear of punishment, fear and/or curiosity of the unknown, or fear of denial of reward.
For this prompt, think about what your character feared as a child. Did their parents or guardians implement urban mythology? Did they hear about myths through other children at school or other gatherings? Myth or not, what shaped their fears during their upbringing, and how did that affect their lives? Did they ever grow out of their suspicions? Did they or do they still use a coping mechanism such as a comfort object to deal with their night frights?
Write or draw something related to fears. You can create an urban myth to embody said fear, or simply explain it through the eyes of your character. Why did this character react to the myth, object, or even actual person? How did this fear shape their behavior? Did your OC have any heroes or comfort objects to help them through it?
A reminder that no prompt is mandatory, these are here to help you develop your OC, you are not under obligation to participate. << PROMPT 3 | PROMPT 5 >> Just getting started? Find character ID templates HERE Need a refresher on the rules of JunkTown Canon? Start HERE
